dfk41 At one time, you had no choice but to use a hopper system, and we all did. There were various modifications one could do to certain grinders of course, then along came the Niche Zero and absolutely turned the market upside down and back to front (and inside out). What you could do if you were really bothered, is weigh in say 6 or 8 x your average dose eg 17gm. Your machine I would imagine is set up on a timer? If you do this experiment you would need to grind into a catching vessel and record the weight of the 6 or 8 shots. The time ought to be a constant. Then see if the reduction of beans in the hopper has any effect on the pour. I totally agree with you that having a hopper and doing what I have suggested is totally nonsensical, but it might give you some data to improve your technique going forward.
MattH So the smaller hopper arrived very quickly from the seller on ebay - much better for my needs Also came across a lance video on youtube about making Italian espresso - now as my tastes are traditional this tweaked my interest so - I have been tryjng this out (courser grind - quicker output) with the Jolly and enjoying the outcome ! All in all a very good week !! Now I also see the huge mc6 is up for sale - that would have been an interesting one to try as its a large conical !!
Jason1wood MattH the Kafatek isn’t that big, or were you talking burrs? It’d sit perfectly alongside the LM 👌
Adrianmsmith MattH wow, thats the small hopper 🤪😎 Do they do a nonnohopper maybe 🥴 Unfortunately its all too big for a kitchen that has cupboards. So pleased single doding is what i prefer, otherwise id have a problem 🙃
MattH Jason1wood I mean the burrs.. and yea it would probably fit nicely in the space of the Jolly.. just 2k short ;) Tbh probably overkill for me - the jolly is very jolly and works really well in my workflow…. I should maybe put the all grind up for sale but you can guarantee I would then decide to make filter coffee……… hehe
MattH Adrianmsmith Its the 600gram - there is a 320gram but I wanted the updated lid so I could mount the clip :)
