Eureka Mythos....the long awaited thread

Just looking for some info if I may.

Do people tend to use the built in tampers of the Eureka Mythos Plus? Or are they are an unnecessary add on most won't use? What size is the tamper? Can they be removed and replaced with a normal upper burr carrier minus the tamper? To clean the front up?

Tal This is from a the dim distant past! The front cover comes off with 2 nuts and bolts to reveal the tamping mechanism. I never used the tamper. I think it is 57mm and once I did order a 58mm base for it, but still never used it. The mechanism can come off but I cannot remember how! I think this video will cover it

a NS mythos one pops up in my local market for _400GBP. Maybe it’s finally time for me to get one …

delta76 The menu is quite extensive. They can reset all the counters, except for total time in use or in other words, how many hours/minutes the machine has ground for. If you go onto YT and look or the menu options it is easy to find. Does this one have 3 or 5 operating buttons. I would be more swayed by overall apperance (has it been looked after) and if the motor sounds sweet. they are pretty indestructible! Also knowing how recently the burrs were changed although you can pick ip Tin burrs for less than £100 these days

Adrianmsmith as I said in that thread, I’m not in the UK ;) . Converted my currency to GBP for your convenience but 400GBP is basically half of what it is usually listing for

delta76 This is a beast of a grinder and built as a tank. Hofmann uses it as his benchmark grinder, if his reviews mean anything to you.

John_Yossarian i think he said it is kind of benchmark grinder for specialty coffee. He used a lot of grinders over the years, some (nz for example) more than others but have not used one as benchmark.

It is very interesting the approach they took for Grind adjustment. The dial is connected to a long connecting rod onto a lever which has a pivot and moves the whole of the motor and burr assembly up and down, but it is surprisingly precise.

Adrianmsmith he’s still commercial, last I checked he owns (whole or in part) https://shop.squaremilecoffee.com/ . As Youtube revenue likely increased over the year, he could invest more into the studio for viewership.

I looked it up a little bit and the “benchmark for specialty coffee especially light roasts” seems to be something that commonly accepted but not said by James himself. Interestingly he was involved with the development of the grinder back in 2013. So it’s quite a character to not publicly praised something you’ve done.

delta76 @Adrianmsmith He said it in the review of Niche Zero. It was in the line “my Mythos is very consistent and I will compare Niche Zero agains it”. Anyhow, I wish @delta76 good luck with getting the Mythos.

John_Yossarian thanks. Literally waiting to meet up with the seller. I should have come to his house to test it on the spot but it was too far away so we will meet somewhere in between. A bit gambling but seems to be nice guy. We’ll see

So his literal words were mythos is used as a benchmark to test NZ. That speaks highly about Mythos but didn’t mean “Mythos is THE benchmark grinder”. A tiny detail but consistent with my impression of James, he always chooses his words carefully to not stating anything as absolute, these are his opinions and those are subjective, which resonates a lot with me and I think I have done the same way (maybe subconsciously learned from him?) in the last several years.
Now with Mythos one step closer to my dream coffee cart. I realized it is substantially slower than my bentwood h75 (3gr/s vs 6-7gr/s) and not having GBW is a huge minus. But it is also easier to carry around and also much cheaper to not have a heart attack should I bump it against something or even drop it

Made a huge mistake. The mythos is far heavy than I anticipated and had a hard time dragging it on and off buses to get home 🤣
I knew it heavy. I didn’t know it is this heavy. Or just I got weaker without noticing

dfk41 not yet. But i have turned it on and it grinds fine (pun intended). Grinded one and threw away, pulled the second one and it tasted well.
Man I am spoiled by the H75. 6.5s for 18gr is not bad, but it feels like an eternity.

delta76 They reduced the spin speed from 1340 to 800. Personally I think that was a mistake as I found a big difference in the taste profile. But enjoy playing! You need offset spanners (I think it is 17mm and 20mm but I might be wrong) to remove the bottom burr and again, I think it is a reverse thread! But check on YT. There is always loads of stuff. Did you check the total runtime setting?

delta76 Mine still does 19 g in 4.15 seconds, it is from the first generation a bit faster RPM. If I remember correctly its weight is between 18-20 kg so yes, it is a beast. Enjoy!
