New Acaia scale without a display

I can see a need for this scale in certain scenarios. One is pulling turbo shots with a bottomless portafilter; spritzes and spills onto the touch buttons of a lunar can halt the scale. Fun if you have stop-by-weight on a supporting machine.

That’s a good point actually… I often rinse the basket under the group… I thought that was a fairly common thing to do but the Acaia presumably gets drenched.

I think new lunar and pearl s firmware has been released

I can see the Pearl S is now mentioned as supported and I’ve updated the firmware but unless I’m missing something it’s still not working.

I think there must be a different way of pairing on the Pearl S as when you follow the guide it just goes to the Pearl settings like brightness etc.

I’m going to email them again!

HarveyMushman Did you update to version D of the 009 firmware - you can pick from the list in then updater app assuming yours is the PS003/004 model ?

I didn’t realise you could select different firmware.

It works a treat now! It’s very clever how quickly it wakes/sleeps when you power on the Pearl.

Definitely one of the better coffee gear purchases I’ve made in the last few months!

A quick update - having updated the lunar I flipped over to using it with the umbra.

Boxed up the pearL for a bit. So it seems whatever functions exist on the parent scale can be used with the umbra - so in the case of the lunar i like the auto tare with timer and flow stop option. Putting the cup on the scale tares it - starts the timer - and all I have to do is flip the paddle on the machine 👍

Alongside this I have to say I really like the weber buck portafilter handle with the weber 20gr unibasket.

It is very nicely made - a solid handle which as its flat removes my portafilter holder from the bar. Plus is sits hogh in the micra and the straight handle gives me a level clearence for my cups.

I am also finding i am using a wdt tool less - just shaking the grounds slightly from the super jolly and then tamping. The unibasket has been very consistent but you do need to give it a good whack to empty it.

I am almost at the point where I know what I need and so should have a fire sale to clear out all the various baskets and accessories I have collected on the way…

I’ve always timed from button press and not first drip as scales with auto timers would do. Kinda makes timer scales pointless if so? Or are they more meant for pourover than espresso?

Am i doing it wrong?

I never use the auto start either way but yes I think it’s probably a better function for proper.

I use the setting which auto tares then starts the timer when the cup goes on the scale - when the flow stops the timer stops as well.

Which is what you want right ?

I don’t think this function is supported on the connection with my Pearl S yet unfortunately (only dual weight display or weight/time).

It’s another good use of the Umbra though as I like auto tare/start but have had stray drips or spray mess with touch buttons before.

Aha yes agreed - its a option on the lunar.

So it seems whatever the main scale the umbra will work with 👍

Hence the pearl Is boxed for a while.. i do like it though all very slick
