dang2484 Yes - nor did I! I have today suggested to them that they make their recipe guide more prominent on their website, which they have agreed to do.

dfk41 I didn’t get this one, but I’m going to try some others on the next delivery.

jrling the Peru - bakewell tart, Brazil - cherry and caramel and fruit cake blend have all been nice and even the Honduras decaf was quite good mostly for milk though.

Just ordered the South & Central American Selection and took advantage of the free 250g of Chocolate Brownie offer.

Not having had a bad coffee yet (although some are better than others) I have just plumped for a kilo of the Nicaraguan Toffee Apple

Still not badly priced at £29.99 per kilo plus until Saturday they have an offer on. Buy a kilo in weight of anything and using code FREE250 they give you a free 250gm bag of their house blend. On top of that is free postage. I have suggested to them they keep off descriptions like medium/medium dark as it is subjective. Instead, photograph the roast showing the bean next to a standard definition medium roast level and let people make their own judgement.

dfk41 I like your suggestion. Have though yet to see any roaster that does follow that route.

What do you think about using definitions like City Roast etc.? This article with pix is helpful in determining roast levels appearance Roast Levels

Or actually, to be definitive they could give the set temperature of the roaster to which they roast the beans? They must know what that is to do the roasting?

jrling I think though I do not know for sure, that they are fairly new to roasting and probably thought going darker was easier……Their stuff is not as dark as I expected it to be and others have said the same…..I suggested the photos to them and they replied saying they were going to have a chat amongst the team……have to wait and see what they come up with….I am full of useless suggestions!

I did expect them to be on the darker side with the taste profiles but were surprisingly not so. I’ve just ordered another batch of different coffees to give them another go.

I once had a test batch from rave which was labelled as Ethiopian Dark roast, no tasting notes and got to say it was one of the best coffees I’ve ever had eh like vanilla and whiskey like qualities. I have no idea if that’s what they were going for but made me think, do we need all these labels like light/dark and tasting notes as its so subjective it doesn’t really mean much.

        13 days later

Just tried a 250g bag of CWorks ‘Dark Chocolate & Hazelnut’ single origin Brazilian (medium/dark) and we all liked it a lot.

These are their Recipe recommendations for brewing -

        **Ideal brew temperature: 93C
        Ideal shot time: 20-25 seconds
        Ideal brew ratio: 1:1.8 - 1:2
        **
*Re shot window  - with this coffee, lower extractions tend to taste sweeter & nuttier, higher extractions take on deeper notes of dark chocolate, treacle & molasses.

This makes this coffee a fun one to experiment with - but just be aware that this bean extracts quite a bit easier than most, which means that you’ll probably need to grind coarser & try to speed up the shot time vs your previous bean.

If you’re finding that you’re getting dull, almost flavourless coffee - this is a sign of severe over extraction, so go way more coarse, aiming for a fast (around 20 seconds from pressing the shot button) shot time.*

They are right in that it was very easy to dial in and even not dialled in shots were quite acceptable. Also the ability to vary the flavour to your taste was great.

jrling I have just opened their Toffee Apple

I do not normally buy SO beans. From yesterday to today, the same grind setting on the Mythos gave me a 65 second pour. I messaged @Jason1wood this morning being a fellow Mythos owner and he told me he had experienced the same thing making us wonder if the heavy rain we had yesterday and low heavy clouds today, had created atmospheric problems. I have had this before. But, I have not tamed this one yet!

Must give CWorks a go as never ordered from them yet but what I’m hearing sounds right up my street.

Agree with what David @dfk41 mentions about the weather as my beans totally choked my machine this morning but was perfectly dialled in yesterday early evening.

dfk41 the monsoon effect 😎 we brits blame the weather for everything. Must be a global warming issue. ☕

Anyway, everything you are talking about is better than what im drinking this week. And your weather is better!!

            About Me

Just working through C W dark choc Sumatra Mandheling ,exactly as it says on the label.

Really rich and creamy, strong chocolate little or no acidity.

Just need to try the other three before reordering.

We have had strange weather up here recently. A long dry period followed by a couple of days of intense rain. I can see how the atmosphere changes via the amount of water collected in the de-humidifier. The result has been wild variations in grind adjustment. But, I am pleased to say I have now nailed this Toffee Apple SO down. It is tasty enough though being single origin not as punchy as I normally go for. I know with Fathers Day approaching one of my two boys has got me a kilo of my go to, Chocolate Fondant!
