Zennor coffee

Had a few coffees now from Zennor, I think it was @LMSC who brought them to my attention, I definitely think they are up there with Dark Woods & Taith.

Currently enjoying Edinson Argote, La Quebraditas, thermal shock, washed Typica Mejorado, from Colombia.

Notes are pink grapefruit, lemonade & rose - certainly getting the first & last note consistently. It’s nice to have a genuinely floral coffee, rather than the more commonly cited ‘jasmine’ note, that always seems more of an artefact of texture, accompanied with a sandy mouthfeel, to me.

Clean, fairly sweet & juicy.

I made a few budget decisions lately, regarding purchases. Some good, some… well, I knew what I was doing so I can’t blame anyone else! :-) This time, I admittedly went ‘all in’ with a bit of a splurge at £27.50 for 200g. No complaints. Even the cups that slightly miss the mark are still very enjoyable, just a bit different.

Half the bag down and cups are subjectively scoring an average of 8 /9 (AKA 4.5 /5.0). All brewed as pour over/drip.

Zennor’s Kenyan Karinga AA SL28 and SL34. This Kenyan coffee is solid—very bright, sweet, and fruity with a berry and sweet citrus finish.

I struggled a bit with the Ethiopia , Gatta Daye Bensa, honey Heirloom (pretty much all cups were 6/9, ‘like a little’). Zennor we very keen to engage and suggest ways to hopefully improve results, however I wasn’t able to gain any significant improvement. Perhaps a bit optimistic with the purchase on my part, as I generally have a low preference when it comes to Ethiopia…but sometimes still can’t resist promising note descriptions.

Colombia, Nestor Lasso, El Diviso X Cata thermal shock natural Yellow Papayo was a different story, averaging 7.5/ 9.0 (AKA 4.3/ 5.0 - avg for the last 98 bags being 7.2/ 9.0 AKA 4.1/ 5.0). Definitely achieving the stated notes, like a jammy Shiraz, with zesty tropical fruit notes. Very nice.

Just finished up a bag of Zennor, Colombia, El Diviso, Nestor Lasso, thermal shock anaerobic natural Ombligon.

A light roast, a few quakers & paler looking beans (some of which I removed when convenient), but very enjoyable scoring 4.3/ 5.0 on subjective overall liking (compared to 4.2/ 5.0 average for all drip/pour over brews), 4/ 5 acidity, 3/ 5 bitterness, 2/ 5 intensity.

Tasting notes suggest Haribo cherry, I’ve never had these but definitely a cherry vibe, perhaps more like that in Belgian kriek beer, or the aftertaste from cherry Tunes?

All brewed as pour over/drip.

Zennor’s Kenyan Ndiaini was another nice coffee. It had bright and sweet berries acidity with a slight tart finish, which is probably cranberry or pomegranate. It scored an average 8.4 / 9 across all brew mediums - Switch, the Aromaboy and Lever.
