prezes am I right from your pic that you run a spring on top of the puck screen?

I do find the puck can be quite sloppy with darker roasts but I use a standard 58mm puck screen so likely in getting water sitting in between.

dang2484 that’s correct and I had the same issue. With lower dose the puck was uneven and blown sometimes.

mattp i find it get a sweeter more balanced shot. But to be honest it’s much more consistent and forgiving which i think is great as there’s so many variables it hard to know if it was the coffee or me pulling a bad shot most of the time!

prezes cheers, do you find it works and any issues with damage to the shower screen in the machine?

dang2484 too early to say to be fair but I don’t this there’s is. The spring is really easy to compress.
I’ll try to get some dark roasted coffee out of the freezer at some point and put it to the test but with light and medium it works great.

prezes cheers, it does look quite soft. Might be different for larger doseages but I don’t do more than 16/17g anyway.

Be good to see how it performs with dark roasts.

@dfk41 it don’t think is extra faff, i was already doing a bit of WDT and adding a screen so a spring popped on top for darker it’s going to waste a day.

There’s loads of products that get updated after public release and those that don’t have 2/3yrs or product testing with large teams, this guy got this out in a few months at less than hair the price!

Saying the above this is on the basis of 16g doses. If you start using 18/19g it might be a different story as it will be compressed from the start.

Do you need the spring with the higher doses though ?

I am probably in the minority here but here goes…….why was this not picked up on in the testing period? Are you really telling me that you are willing to add all of this additional faff to your coffee making process? If the Flair was producing as good a cuppa as you think the same sized basket gives you, why not buy a Flair? DO Flair owners have to go through all these additional steps? Sorry, I had high hopes for this product but far from being a simple solution it is like going out with a beautiful lady…….hard work!

just buy a decent, then you dont need this basket, its very comparable in price too

As I said above it’s a very personal if you’re willing to put all this extra effort and is it worth it in the end.

It produces a great tasting shot and at this moment I’m happy to use it if I fancy a double over a single just for myself.

Would I pay £220 for the sworks version (with the tamper base and dosing ring) and not have to use the spring - I wouldn’t but again this is very personal.

@prezes - I’ve been using that screen the other way round - the polished side facing the coffee bed, the grooved side facing the shower screen. I am not sure which one is the correct way :)

Managed to pull a shot with darker roast. 16g:28g and could’ve ground a bit coarser.

The spring did what it was supposed to but I wouldn’t use it with more than 17g.

It does take some knocking to get the puck out! I don’t use the bottom paper filter. Most likely easier to a knock box than onto a plastic tray

prezes thanks for checking that out. Looks like it does a good job and a much cleaner puck than in getting at the mo for dark roasts.

For the life of me, after a few years with the Bravo Tamper, I forgot to level tamp (ok, that’s an exaggeration) - so I bought this from Amazon today, will arrive tomorrow. I’ll let all know how it goes with the Graph basket:

There’s a posher version, same manufacturer, but almost double the price.

I am truly enjoying this basket now that I got the hang of it. It’s not any more faff than a 58mm basket, and I’m finding WDT not as necessary. I just wish the Elizabeth allowed for a more manual pre-infusion routine where I could control the bloom phase, rather than having to pre-define a set time. The pre-infusion is key for this basket, with my machine at least. Without it the results are not so great.

MediumRoastSteam - I’ve received the tamper. It fits the basket very well. It has a ripple base (not flat) - not my favourite but it is what it is.

They don’t tell what’s the spring resistance on their website for this one, not that it’s a constant pressure one. After a simple test with a bathroom scale, the weight applied to the coffee puck was 12 kilograms. This is before the levelling plate touching the finger resting lip. When it does, you can apply more pressure - but that will be to the rim of the basket (the outer basket in this case) not to the coffee puck. So the maximum force one can apply is up to the resistance offered by the spring.

Reading the reviews of the better version which claims constant pressure force etc of 30lbs (approx 15 kilograms) - someone in the reviews did a test and said it was more like 20lbs (10 kilograms approx).

Is 12kg of pressure good enough? I hope so.

Same test with the Bravo and that registered 15kg.

Just got myself the basket and the add ons from Graph as a early xmas treat. From the off im impressed with the sweetness and balance. Surprised how much courser you have to go. Really like it to the point im drinking way too much coffee now.

I’m getting really good results with this basket, I think it’s fantastic. The flavour and mouthfeel with some of the beans is so much more intense than my regular basket , similar to drinking a liqueur …. thick , sweet and sticky. I wouldn’t want this style of shot all of the time but it’s a bit like a good desert, lovely as a treat.

For me , the results are definitely worth the extra bit of prep involved.

This is what has been working for me. I’ve been using it on and off.

Grinder: Niche Duo
I’m using the basket without the portafilter spring.

Grind 19g into Niche’s cup;
With the basket outside of the portafilter, place basket on top of the cup; (I don’t use the funnel - For me there is no need);
Flip it and shake;
Remove cup;
Tap sides of the basket to distribute until level. For me, all the grinds on the side of the basket will fall into the basket by doing that;
Tamp;
Add puck screen;
Lock and pull.

Takes no time at all to prep. Very consistent shots, and for me, the shots feel more thick, fuller. I’m enjoying it.
