Hi, it is with great reluctance, that I have decided to sell my Arrarex Caravel. This is a fairly unique machine for a number of reasons. Created by Dr Emidio Salati of Milan around 1960, when the factory closed in the mid seventies, all of the tooling was destroyed. This meant, that up until recently (Brookes Espresso of Holland) the only parts available other than seals were cannibalised ones. There were 3 versions and this is a version 3.0 with all the mods that were added through its life. You can dis assemble the machine without any tools at all. The machine has an open boiler meaning the reservoir sits on top of an electrical element and is not pressurised. I simply slide the lid to one side and insert a thermo pen. I found that once warmed through, the optimum temp to pull the shot was 94 or 95 degrees. The basket holds 12 to 14 grams.
The machine is complete as in all original and no parts missing. When I received it, I stripped it down and the impression I got, was that whoever owned it had used it once then put it away. The piston is usually layered in coffee crud…..nothing. The pf shows no sign of use. The boiler has no water stains. I am quite happy to carry on believing it as being virtually unused.
When you lift the drip tray out, there is a little area where the paint has gone. I have no idea why. The metal lip around the base, front left leg when looking at it, has one small area where it is not straight. A metal working friend offered to sort it but I declined. This machine is from around 1973 and it does not detract. I have not polished her up for sale. I like to know the history but am not impressed by old gleaming things! I have used it several times. I have had an electrician convert the Italian 3 pin cable and plug over to UK spec and have the original.
Now, the other thing that makes this one special, is that I have the original box for it. Believe me when I say that these are rarer than hens teeth. For that reason I will offer the machine for sale with or without the box.
The price to a bona fide forum member without the box is £250.The price for the machine to include the box is £350.
Those prices are firm. I will ship at buyers expense and liability.
Just have a look on Bay to see what these babies do, and that is machines that are no where near the standard of this one.
