I was under the impression that the Mythos 75mm burrs are different but perhaps they are the same or very close. Regardless, congratulations and have fun (and fingers crossed this meets with wifely-approval ;-)

Actually, if you were not a man of entire integrity, you might be tempted to offer that the downsize to an Atom grinder is to please her. Of course you would never do such a thing, but I might ;-)

BrendaninBrooklyn Ha! My wife has no say in it! Of course there was a trade off and she is now the proud owner of a North Face jacket! The Eureka 75mm burrs are basically all very similar but they change the profile and cut to suit the power and different torque settings the different grinders have. I have never seen an Atom in the flesh but I suspect they are still quite a chunk!

Still sizable yes, but the specs indicate your wife will likely be pleased. I always consult my wife on major purchases, however I confess that I do not always listen ;-) I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts once you have it in hand and have run a few Kg through it.

Right, here are a couple of photos. There is not really much I can add to what I have already said. The rationale is I looked long and hard for a used Mythos and found this one for £350. I chatted to the owner for a week or so and everything added up with his story. The grinder turned up and it was the best packaged thing that I have ever received. His father had a retail unit for building supplies and they knew what they were doing. I immediately ordered the smaller hopper (you can have the larger one as well). There was some doubt as to how well it would fit but I have not had a problem with it. I then sourced a set of burrs (I really do not have any idea why!) that I have not fitted as the Tin burrs in it perform very well. They cost me £85.

I am quite keen for the next owner to really want one and therefore happy to pass on the bits that I bought for her (assuming it would be a keeper) at no cost. In simple terms I am selling a GOOD example for £170 less than I paid for it…..yes, I am daft at times.

I have been thinking back and I think over the years I have owned 7 of this version and 2 of the newer slow spin Clima Pro. That spins around 800 rpm whereas mine is 1350 from memory. But, in my humble opinion the older ones produces a far superior taste. I chuck about 300 gms into the hopper. Making sure they are all sitting over the throat funnel. I always top up when this drops to 100 gms or so. Despite what people tell you, these grinders use an auger to feed the beans and you need a weight of beans to push them through, for uniformity.

I have today ordered and paid for a Eureka Atom 75mm Grind by weight from Claudette at BB. It will be a month before it arrives. I also ordered a 300 gm hopper as the supplied one is enormous. I am looking forwards to playing with it from a comparison of taste basis plus the grind by weight bit. Life is so simpler now I have lost the shackles that single dosing imposes on you. Coffee is not a perfect science so why kid yourself?

Cuprajake Many thanks for the recommendation but I am set in my ways! I still have flared trousers and tank tops! I like things that have stood the test of time, not that might…..it looks an interesting grrinder and sure I would try one out if given the chance. I prefer to watch repeats of Ashes to Ashes than the modern dramas where every actor regardless of the period in which it is set has diamond white teeth!

If anyone gets one I will gladly listen to their experience be it pain and suffering or something else! The burrs, how much are they to buy normally? I know absolutely nowt about Lagom but I presume you are buying a grinder and a set of burrs. Are they both special somehow, in a way that I really ought to know about?

I’m fairly certain Jim Schulman reviewed the O-O when he did the Philos and Zerno reviews, however just looking now I cannot find the link. If I can, I’ll post it, as Jim is a thoughtful, articulate, no-nonsense person, and worth reading. However, I doubt it will convert you to single-dosing nor should it, if on-demand suits you better. You have a very fine grinder, and will soon have another. Enjoy what you like.

I’m not sure I’d call flair trousers timeless though ;-)

dfk41 That looks a great deal for someone but not me I’m afraid as you’re much too far away for me to realistically pick that up (I’m in Hertfordshire) and I would never buy something like that and trust a courier service to deliver it intact. I hope it finds the good home it deserves.

BrendaninBrooklyn Many thanks for the link. Unusually for me, there was no impulse in the purchase decision. I sat and thought about it, read and watched then the penny dropped when I realised the 75mm burr variations were simply to accommodate speed and power and torque of individual grinders. This means that the taste I associate with the Mythos should in theory be achievable with other Eureka grinders using the 75mm burr set. The decision to go grind by weight was a bit of an impulse! I know the early versions were beset with issues but as the grinder matured the word on the street is they are reliable now. Guess that I will find out soon enough!

This is a grinder I’ve always wanted. I’m kind of relieved I live so far away from you as I’m not sure I could swing fitting this into the kitchen. Also a bit gutted as this is a very fair price. I’ll be watching this thread with interest. GLWS 👍
