Clodius Right, to try and clear this up! For me to find out what the retention is after the grinder has had about 8 kilos though, I either have to take the burrs out or blow it through. I am not comfortable with spanners on the whole. I do not know the grinder and so do not want to remove the burrs and clean it out.
Option 2 therefore is a blow through system of some sort. BB offered me one but unfortunately the box Claudette thought the hopper was in was empty! The Eureka Blow Hopper is around £150. I did not really want to spend that amount when retention does not really bother me (unless it is a lot by anyones standards). I thought I had found one on Ebay for half price so I bought it thinking I could move it on again for a small loss. As I mentioned I have been doing surveys online and had saved up around £80 which would cover the cost meaning other than time it was free to me. That sale was a con and fell though.
So having £80 saved up I then found a reputable Australian website selling the OEM hopper for less than £100 including delivery to the UK and whilst thinking about it, I saw this hopper for about £40, had a think and bought it.
The exercise is just to satisfy my curiosity about how much stuff I can get out of it without stripping it down and potentially causing further issues. So I am not single dosing. I doubt I will use the puffer more than once but it fits a variety of grinders so I may sell it on, or keep it. I have been using the same bean now for 7 months but I suppose if I did change beans it might ‘help’!
