Lets kick off with some beautiful measuring equipment and it's even coffee related for some projects I'm doing. Micrometer (1 micron), depth gauge (1 micron) and calipers (10 micron). Last time I posted here (picture of a bee suit) Dave started imagining it in the bedroom, hope he doesn’t have any fantasies about this. Arrived all the way from Ukraine and it heats up a liquid mix of alcohol (in Poland they’ll use Vodka) and oxalic acid turning it into a mist which is sprayed into the hive, the aim is to kill the varroa mite, in human terms imagine a dinner plate size crab hanging on and eating your tummy fat .

SurreyAlan Good luck with the varroa - and careful with the oxalic; it’s poisonous for mammals if ingested/absorbed.

And destroys your lungs if you breathe it in so I wear a 3M full face mask fitted with the appropriate chemical filters and still stand upwind, always amazed when I see videos of people not taking the right precautions. 4 of our 6 hives hardly had any varroa this year but great year for honey.

SurreyAlan Yep. I use it for cleaning minerals and eliminating water stains from wood, and while it’s not as dangerous as a spray, I’ve seen a fair dose of people using it in ways that I think are definitely dangerous (no gloves!)

The Lelit Bianca in black arrived just over a month ago, before I went to Italy. I only had time today to unpack it.

I have it next to the same model in stainless. I will comission it tonight and ensure it has my preferred settings, which may well be the factory ones, I can’t remember for sure.

A bit of a traditionalist black doesn’t do it for me prefer the shiny stuff but I’m old and boring. Just wondering how many Biancas a man needs? Suspect the black is sold at a premium but looking at the pictures once again this is an amazing piece of kit for the money.

Well I have realised I need 3, I then thought I actually have 3, but the wrong three. I now have the black, 1 too many of the stainless and I really need a white……which is just silly. 🤣

If electricity hadn’t gone up so much, I would have had no hesitation in having 2 or even 3 machines on at once, as I used to..
