Immediate advantage over my old Gaggia Classic (PID) and RR45 setup is that its quiet enough to use before going to work in the morning, no waking the wife or neighbours. Its also so easy to dial in compared to the RR45, and changing beans is possible without wasting loads. Taste wise it early days, but this pare do seem to giver a better shot, so fingers crossed. Really happy with the Sage DB as well, just picked that up and playing with pre infusion and brew temperatures, its much better than the Gaggia for milk.

Well JonC mine was ordered a few weeks ago and is due in March (fingers, legs and eyes crossed). When it gets here I will have the same setup as you, a Sage DB and the Niche and like you it's my step up from a Gaggia and RR55OD. Having the same machine I would be interested when you've had a play at what you are setting the DB up at.

Once you go black, you never go back.

No, mine was loose but luckily I spotted it as soon as I ran the grinder for a couple of seconds just to test it worked, I watched the bolt back itself right out…. I did it up too gingerly in the absence of a tourque setting and it backed out again twice, 4th time cranked it down a little more and it has stayed there since.

Dumnorix I used the included driver that came with it and tightened till the top burr moved. Hoping that’s tight enough but will see if it loosens again.

Dumnorix I think the easiest solution is just to shock tighten it. By this I mean tighten until the burrs start turning. Then stop turning and give a very quick turn, this will tighten it more before the burr starts turning.

You can use something like a wooden chopstick in the burrs to lock them and let you tighten them more, but using the shock tighten approach I’ve never found it necessary.

I’ve always shocked mine tight and never had one come loose.

Many thanks- I stupidly forgot they had sent a tool for that very purpose! Just as well as I don’t think I even own a spanner. I’ve certainly never used one in the 10 years I’ve been at my current address!

My nut was loose on arrival. I had contemplated using some Loctite on it, but its on solidly now.

Static wise its pretty good, I was going to check and see if its earthed to the stud under the wood that the cup sits on, and possibly drill a hole in the wooden bit and add a conductor for the cup. Probably a waste of time.

It is earthed to the stud….try a temporary wire and crocodile clip first,…see if it helps. Or use a folded strip of tinfoil to make the earth connection and put the cup on it.
