Good to see some of the old user names here! It’s a shame about the old place but onwards and upwards!

It appears Orchestrale are no longer around so I think I ought to buy a few elements so I can keep the Nota going for as long as possible. It appears the element is the one bespoke part and everything else that might fail is pretty generic. But if you know otherwise please say.

dfk41 that’s weird. At the weekend the Orchestrale website wasn’t working and everywhere I looked for the Nota websites listed it as discontinued.

However it appears their website is back up and running. Also the Nota has changed to now have PID too.

Perhaps I should ask about the possibility of upgrade to a PID when I eventually get round to returning the machine to Bella Barista for a full service.

Though not sure what a normal service would do that I haven’t done myself as very soon i will have done the following tasks myself - replaced element, anti vacuum valve, joystick and e61 seals, group head gasket.

Perhaps I’d get them to check the electricals and install the PID too.

dancing-james You should also find that multiple different elements will work in that machine as long as they are at the same height or lower and with the same size fitting. There is a very good chance that is an off the shelf standard part.

It’s a beautiful looking machine and I would be very surprised if they go out of business…might be acquired by some corporate though. Impact wrench was absolutely the right way to go..

One question, should I use plumbers tape on the threads where the element screws in to the boiler? Or would a bit of food safe silicone be a better idea? I don’t have any food grade anti seize compound, just copper slip for bike assembly.

Yes, PTFE tape for ease of removal next time…but it never works for sealing those coarse threads…the hard PTFE gasket has to do the job….I’ve always thought heating element sealing to be rather unsatisfactory on most machines and one of the more common areas for leaks. The O ring system on the Vesuvius is much better.

You can see that that particular element has been leaking

All good, parts arrived, machine back up and running. Had to tighten the element in a little further to eliminate a little drip but normal service has now resumed.

dancing-james The problem with the teflon seal is that it is free to move off centre because of the reduced thread at the element shoulder. I had the same problem on my Q M Verona. It is necessary to hold the seal centrally as you tighten the element. PTFE on the thread definitely makes future removal easy.

I have wondered about experimenting with Viton O rings…nice thinck ones…when I next have to remove a heating element. I think if they are not squished too much, it would probably work OK. Or even FKM (same thing)
