I didn’t drink tea or coffee for over 20 years, until one day on a Swedish airlines flight when they were offering proper coffee (so they said) I couldn’t resist the smell. From then on I decided if I was going to drink it, then it would be the proper stuff too and so joined a forum (the one DavecUK has recently left) got myself a Brasilia RR55OD grinder and Gaggia Classic with PID and Silvia steam wand fitted, plus a lot of other gubbins and have never looked back. Just added a ROK grinder and lever machine to my set-up too.
I’ll admit to never really finding the espresso nirvana that many coffee aficionados do, even though I buy beans from good roasters such as Rave or York Coffee Emporium, because of either not having a good enough taste buds, or the right technique…I suspect a lot of both, so I still seem to get a lot of sour or bitter shots. Consequently, we end up having a lot of lattes. But, I am always willing to learn and take advice from those with far more knowledge and experience.
I also bake all my own bread (love sourdough) cakes etc and since getting a sous vide set-up, have had the best perfectly coooked steaks ever. Since retiring, I’ve also started woodworking using only hand not powered tools, and am hoping to build a new case for an old wall clock.
