My advice would be that it depends what you want it for. I.e do you want another hobby and put in the time to learn a new skill of heat management and different grilling/ smoking techniques? Or do you want a set and forget type thing that gives a great end product but you’re less hands on. For the former then a kettle bbq, charcoal/ wood smoker or Kamado might be a good shout. If the latter then a Masterbuilt, Traeger or Weber gravity fed smoker might be better where all the heat control (i.e fuel feed and air flow) is done automatically.
I have a Weber Kettle and it’s a great bit of kit, useful to do everything on so you can cook hot and fast or low and slow. You can get pretty much every accessory for the 57cm size as well because they are so popular (important to remember it’s not just coffee that gives you upgrade-itis!). There is also a huge community around it, videos on YouTube etc to help improve your skills or give recipes, timings etc.
If you want to dip your toe before committing to a £1k+ Kamado Joe or Big Green Egg, then the Aldi ones for about £400 have pretty great reviews from the bbq community. I don’t have one but I do have the smaller size Aldi Kamado and the quality is pretty good.
