Recently I went out with my wife, she had to have her hair done and while waiting I wandered around. I came by a coffee shop and being early Saturday morning (i did have my double espresso at home) I decided to see what the coffee might taste like.
I ordered my double espresso that came in less than 10 seconds. I could not help but ask what machine they had. I had noticed that there was a small mountain of ground coffee around the grinder. The lady explained that she had just opened the coffee shop and the company providing the equipment (2 gr Fracino and a grinder) gave her some training. I was all willing to help and asked her to dial the grinder a bit to get better grind. She looked into a piece of paper full of “wisdom” and turned it into the wrong direction so the next shot came out in less than five seconds. It was quite early and I was the only person so she invited me behind the bar to help with the grinder. It turned out that all the time she was widening the gap between the burrs and as a result she could not get a decent shot.
After playing quite a bit she finally got the idea and made me another double espresso, which was not perfect but was miles away from her first offering. I felt sorry for her, most likely took a loan and invested it into this, hopefully, lifesaving business and yet the people who provided her with the equipment could not care less when training her.
In a nutshell, I did not complain but kindly asked what the problem was, if that counts 😀
EDIT: I should have made her aware of this forum site where she could have all the expertise she would need.
