The forum has a rich set of functions that are not obvious at first glance. Here's one you may have missed. Pop out side windows that can be pinned as well. If you are reading through a post, without having to go back to the main area, you can pop out a window. **Just move the mouse pointer to the far left of the screen, and it will pop out.** Pin it if you want and select another discussion to drop into. I believe **new posts are listed in the landing page**, and in your pop out pinnable sidebar, if you are viewing posts. If it's an area you have contributed to, it's highlighted…if you have not yet posted in the area it's just listed from top to bottom. So it's exactly the same as CFUKs new posts link. It doesn't show activity like "likes etc..", that's shown in your personal notification bell Icon, which you can configure in the settings option of your profile to show more or less alerts. It's there automatically at the main screen (landing page), you don't need to click on anything to see it Hopefully that answers the question? *P.S. I should mention it lists the discussion, not the individual post, because it's the discussion that has been updated…click on it and it takes you to the first new post.*

Another function you may not have found it quoting what someone has said. Simply go to their post, highlight the text you want to quote and a quote option pops up. Click it and it inserts that quote into your post and tags it with the author. Unlike most other forums. If later you quote someone else, the same process and it adds it into your post and tags the person again….none of this multiquote button nonsense…plus it only quotes the bit you select. @"yardbent"#p4127 Profile —-> Settings. You can enable or otherwise the features you want to be notified. You will then notifications. Profile —-> Discussions. When you click a thread, you can also choose follow it. I have disabled most of them, as all latest updates appear on top of the screen for me.

I just did a forum fixup as I think some updated extensions were loaded to complement the newer version of Flarum, hence all the funy naming <lol>. Seems better now.

There were some forum issues today due to freeflarum actually running out of disk resources…100%! Many forums after reaching a certain donation level (we exceeded that 5 months ago) can store files on the servers. I don’t allow any of our files apart from the essential to be stored on the server to keep our footprint as small as possible. So I fortunately never turned on file uploads. Our files all go elsewhere and are simply referenced in posts. It massively reduces server load. Important because of our forums size.

This led to some other problems with updates etc.. Our forum has been fixed now, although you might still get some red warning boxes if you do things too fast. This is because changes have to ripple through all the servers/forums and this uses resources.

Hopefully should all be good tomorrow.

My view was in dark mode until today. Now I can’t find the option to revert back to dark mode. Does it still exist?

Night mode had become disabled for some reason. It might not be compatible with the new version of Flarum. I’ve enabled it again, it will be in the same place as settings, like before.

If it causes problems though, I may have to disable again.

DavecUK My suspicion was correct, quote from the freeflarum discussion thread.

yes, I disabled it globally because I suspected that it might be causing problems, since I saw some error logs related to it in PHP-FPM when I attempted to upgrade. I now see that it happened because the new version requires Flarum 1.4.0, which FreeFlarum is not on, yet. It should be safe to turn it on now, since I rolled back the extension upgrade.

They have still been having some server problems…hopefully it will be sorted out soon. I am pretty sure it’s not a load issue, but a configuration one…We have another major Flarum update to 1.40 on 1 August 2022…

PHP-FPM ran out of memory.

Maria.db, required for the freeflarum server to run crashed, but a new script to autorestart, it has been implemented and made more resilient. Which appear to work as the entire server farm crashed again as I was writing this!

P.S. Obviously when all the forums/server restart, the system gets slow for a while and might throw up the odd resource error…that red box.
