The Decent was sold in the early days as a machine that could do any profile you want, flow or pressure, even temp,with no limitations. Because it doesnt have a boiler and the temp is adjusted as I said with 2 pumps (1 cold and 1 hot water) it can do things like 60C bloom/95C extraction/60C finish if that is what you want.
After you play with it, and try a lot of things, you settle to 1 or 2 profiles and from time to time try something new but go back to those 1 or 2 profiles.
Now about the fact that the decent mimics something, a machine with a vibration pump will never be able to mimic fully a lever that has a 20g/s+ flow and volume of water pressure on the coffee. It’s not the same pumping with 2g/s into the group to extract vs pressing with a column of water.
Why the decent can’t mimic the evo? because the decent is capped at vibe pump flow rate fill before it was 8g/s now it might be 10g/s for some units but still far from the 20g/s in the evo.

Decent is nice to play with but after that it becomes annoying, start to see flaws in software, cheaper parts in the build, grid that rattles, paint that flakes, legs that are not straight, dust in the water tank cause it’s not sealed, and the most annoying for me it will give you a software error out of the blue, and I had that with some super expensive coffee starting the shot to get an error, shot ruined, can’t pull that grounds again.
In the end whatever you like, but to keep it straight, the taste and body from the high flow fill is not matched by the decent. There will be flavors and clarity, but when it comes to body, texture, not close.
There are people from Germany who drink only med to dark roast who sent the decent back after 24-48hours because of the lack of body/texture, something they got used with from their e61 machines. Decent is decent, it does good to what it is. It’s not an e61, or a londinium, or an evo and it wont be, because of hardware limitations.
In the early years the decent team advertised the machine to mimic any machine (londinium, slayer, LM gs3, cremina) but after some findings they dont say that anymore, it’s obvious why.
