Amberale Yeah, I asked Maria about the little lever but I’m not special enough. :)
Nah, there’s a newer design being developed, based on a suggestion I gave to Paolo. It’s based on having a ratcheted slider allowing you to set a higher or lower chamber fill within the group. This will allow shots at different max pressures and of course swept volumes. “Similar” to the KVDW machines ability to change max brew pressure on their lever, but achieved on the Evo in a much simpler way. The KVDW does it by varying spring tension (using a mechanism). I thought a similar thing would be done by changing the group fill point….
The opportunity arose when I realised the group fill ports were below the piston seals, so they never pass the port, having been moved by most group manufacturers many years ago (inc LSM I believe) to extend seal life to years. Otherwise the constant “nibbling” of the seal as it passes the port (esp under pressure) shortened it’s life.
So they moved the port much lower in the chamber, trouble is they forgot to change the fill timing, so the group fill starts when the piston has passed the position where the ports used to be (higher up the bore). This SNAFU ended up providing me with an opportunity…one I suggested was taken with both hands, Hence the swept volume, amount of air and hence pressure and profile can all be altered by fill timing. Which like the flux capacitor…the little lever makes possible.
