Service boiler random overheating.

A couple of time recently the S / boiler on my Verona has gone to the limit of the gauge and blown off steam from the combined vac / vent valve. I have checked the valve all clean and free moving (using RO water and no scale in the M/ch). PID is a new one. I have checked/ metered the S/boiler probe OK. Could this be caused by an intermittent fault on the SS relay ?

After releasing the overpressure it works normally. Several uses still working normally – then– it will happen again ? Any thoughts @ Dave c

Elcarajillo My first suspect would be the temp sensor has gone bad. Worth changing it as at worst you have a spare which will work in any machine.

I’m assuming it does this when inactive, not when pulling a shot.

Can’t see the SSR intermittently failing like that.

Thanks for the reply. I only fire the S/boiler up when about to use it which means I am usually by the M/ch and hear the steam begin to vent or catch sight of the gauge going up.

I will order a new boiler probe.

It’s also the least expensive potential problem, otherwise it could be the Gicar (as I think the PID might just be a display, with the intelligence in the Gicar box (depends whether they have upgraded over the years or not?)…probably around £80

Just had a reply from Ferrari espresso £81.09 for the temp probe ? gulp😵

Elcarajillo That’s a joke of a price, you must be able to get a cheaper one…as long as it’s a generic espresso one, with the right thread size, it should work?
