Do you guys prefer long black/ Americano ? … Or a pour over for your Black coffee.

drdre89 it depends on the coffee. Some lend themselves to Americano, others shine as a pour over.

Being a pervesrse Kiwi, I favour a Long Black - hot water first, then shot. Medium-ish roast for preference.

But I also love pourover with the right coffees, usually a wee bit lighter roast

Always a fan of long blacks from shots, provided the beans are uni-roast or espresso roasts, IMO. The aroma, strengths and notes are different to a pour over for me. I do pull shots from filter roasts to drink either as an espresso or as a latte. The black coffee on filter roasts thru’ a pour over shine though.

In the last 2-3 months, I make at least 2 long blacks a day using either a V60 or a Clever to save on energy bills. The Evo is switched on just 2 times a day - morning and evening.

Moccamaster in the morning, long black in the afternoon. Mainly med-dark roasts.

For lighter roasts with fruit notes I rarely enjoy them without milk.

Long back from ‘espresso style shots’, Pour overs with lighter roasts. I mix and match and tend to judge as @DavecUK said from the coffee type. It’s always good to experiment. I even find some coffee lends itself for more milk based drinks to a certain degree.

I haven’t gotten into the pour over v60 game yet … I’ve just stuck with my espresso machine and make long blacks now and then.

I should get into mastering the art of pour over

drdre89 I’m going the reverse. 10 years of v60 now on espresso and had first home long black today. Really enjoyed it and better than previous experiences from cafes, even good ones. It wasn’t one of my better ones but still tasty. Still not sure what I prefer a a longer drink, probably a v60 but espresso is quicker.

Aeropress and a big mug for lighter roasts and for first thing in the morning. Espresso with water for darker roasts later in the day.

Long black (medium roast) from the cafetière first thing in the morning. Practicing with V60 (lighter roasts) for subsequent morning drinks and espresso/long blacks in the afternoon. I’m a relative newbie to speciality coffee and still trying to nail down the techniques and tasting notes with the different styles.
