Favourite Coffee Cup?
😂 thanks guys 😂
Odd ball me. When I read thread title my immediate thought was one with coffee in please
Recently purchased these which I use for a range of different purposes:
They are all good quality and from Waitrose. Find they are a good size and feel so use them a lot.. I do want to purchase some glass mugs soon as well though.
Acme tulip cups for the nostalgia around going to East London coffee shops in the early 2010s and practically all of them using Acme cups.
I’d wanted some for ages and at the time seemed like they were only available commercially, and then completely by chance seeing a load on clearance in Liberty so I bought about eight sets!
Inspired by this thread I’ve been trying to find some new favourite cups but there doesn’t seem to be many available anywhere. Loveramics seems to be sold out pretty much everywhere.
Does anyone have any favourite websites/ suppliers I should check out please? Mainly looking for 150 and 180ml cups (for cortados and flat whites)
Ernie1 As mentioned above I got them in Liberty in London many years ago but it looks like they’re available online now.
They look great!
Hmm, looks like they don’t ship to the UK from their EU shop. Unless I’m missing something obvious (very possible!)
Yeah they’ve never been the easiest things to get hold over here for some reason.
I just did a quick Google and it looks like there’s a few commercial hospitality stockists selling them, but they’re only available in packs of 6.
Not bad if you actually want 6!

This is where I got mine from, but as you’ve said stock can be an issue. They are lovely cups though and worth the struggle!
Yeah - these seem to be the best place I found as well. Was trying to get ones that all matched but might need to give up on that and get what I can! Good to know the site can be trusted though! Thanks
Mark-drinks-coffee if you scroll up a few posts you’ll see that my flat white cups and saucers are mismatched. I would never have bought them like that by my other half wanted to get them for my birthday and I have to say I’m really pleased with the effect.

Just pulled the trigger on two 150ml and two 180ml cups from best coffee (non matching). Man this forum should carry a health (wealth) warning.
While I’m at it, can anyone recommend any good Gibraltar/ cortado glasses? I guess about 120/150ml?

Baldrick had a coffee pod subscription from these guys in the short time I had a Nespresso machine. Ordered 60 speciality coffees and 2 of the 4 boxes were past the best before date. Know it shouldn’t make a big difference to the taste of the coffee because of the sealed atmosphere but left a bad taste in my mouth (pun not intended) that they sent out something past best before without any warning that they would.
Granted they did replace but I didn’t renew my subscription.
I ordered some Acme cups a couple of years back and they are fantastic. Just the right size for a double espresso with a bit of extra water added- I think they’re 120 ml.
I have various cups and mugs that I like for my coffee.
Acme espresso demitasse (80ml) in grey with saucer. Same but in cappuccino size (200ml) and latte (300ml cos she likes it milky!)
My Aeropress gets decanted into one of 2 mugs: the Aergrind mug that you got if you backed the Aergrind on Kickstarter, or my “The Bacon’s” (Biffa, Mutha and Fatha out of Viz comic).
I have the traditional glasses for café asiático from the Hotmetalette’s brother. I’ve also got some of those double wall glass jobs for espresso and for milk based drinks, but prefer the Acme.
Never used as its antique but my mum gave me an espresso cup from Crown Staffordshire in Willow Pattern. I will use it some day but too fragile and irreplaceable probably for daily use I suspect. That’s what the Acmes are good for. I got mine from Caravan in KX, dunno if they still sell them in there though.

Posted this as a separate thread but that doesn’t seem to be visible for an odd reason, and just found this one over here so cross posting!
Anyone else having a hard time finding decent cups to use for coffee outside of the Acme/Loveramics/NotNeutral standards? I particularly like a Scandi/Japanese vibe, such as the tumblers by Kinto (https://kinto-europe.com/products/21889 which I discovered at London’s Watchhouse Coffee), except for the fact that they don’t come with saucers. Also a massive fan of Fellow’s (https://coffeehit.co.uk/products/fellow-monty-milk-art-cups) aesthetic/concept but they are fairly expensive in the UK and never in stock in the right size.
When all you want to make is a flat white/capp, the problem with handthrown ceramics is that 1. it is hard to find cups of the proper size (they vary often), 2. they don’t often come with saucers, and in particular, 3. it is hard to find cups with bowl-shaped interiors rather than flat sides and flat bases.
Anyone have affordable recommendations for ceramic cups/tumblers, either from Etsy or larger retailers?
I didn’t have the best experience with hand-thrown flat-bottomed style coffee cups after one we’d bought (that looked really nice!) started leaking coffee in droplets around the seal at the bottom. I guess the issue with daily-use product is that if made by small businesses and startups it doesn’t get tested to the same level so there’s no guarantees it won’t start leaking after say 50 cups of coffee.
Arket and H&M Home (who I think are the same company) occasionally have some nice coffee cups in the style you’ve described. Only downside is that if you buy some that you end up liking then it’s likely the ranges will have changed and they’ll no longer be available.

Ernie1 Thanks for the recommendation - only problem with these (and I have tried something similar from Etsy which was intended as a tea cup) is that they skew towards ‘tall’ rather than wide.. finding cups suitable for latte art (which weren’t designed as such) is nigh impossible! Have recently taken a liking to the Loveramics x Dale Harris cup, but again these don’t come with saucers!
Seems there’s a gap in the market there for anyone who’s done a pottery course and wanting a business idea!
So many potters, so few saucers!

Also just remembered, last time I was down at Origin’s (amazing) roastery cafe in Cornwall, they had some nice cups for sale. They were also serving their coffees in them.

Incidentally I knew the guy who makes them from when he was a barista at Friends of Ours in Hoxton, I had no idea he was now making ceramics but makes sense he’s making coffee related products!
(Still no saucers though…)
What do you need a saucer for?

I got one of these Huskee cups recently. I like it. Nice and tactile, and a nice size. I don’t use the lid at all because I tend to drink either a flat white even faster than an espresso. I don’t think it’ll stop me looking for a ‘perfect’ cup though!

I have a few of those and I live on a completely flat island! I got them when my wife decided to get involved in my search for a takeaway cup after I clumsily smashed my glass one to pieces at a relative’s house… Ended up getting a set of 4 as we decided they look nice enough to serve to guests 😂 the whole episode even got her voluntarily discussing tasting notes with me
