I have a wooden handled bottomless pf (generic) that I bought for my Elizabeth then a barista pro IMS basket in it. Will this IMS basket fit the supplied bottomless pf that comes with the Vesuvius?

So, my Vesuvius arrived today. I didn’t want to start another thread and this looked like the most appropriate place to discuss my first day! It left Italy last Friday and arrived in my house today - 6 days, yipee! Mine was definitely used, the plastic was gone from it, there was dirt here and there, spilled water underneath the water tank and for some reason the pipes going onto the tank had a black residue of some sort on parts of them. The panel on top of the machine, where the cup test sits is pretty badly finished with dirty plastic covering it but doesn’t bother me. I didn’t pay for a brand new machine I guess!! Assembling was easy as the provided guide is comprehensive (remember the first thing you do is unscrew the four screws on the top of the side panels, no hammer or anything required) The Teflon furniture gliders I pre purchased are perfect for moving it around on the counter top. A bag of felt pads come with the machine. I put 1L through the group 200ml at a time with at least 15 seconds in between. I then emptied the service boiler twice as per manual. I noticed the shower screen had coffee on it so I soaked that in puly caff and gave a good wash. At this stage I only had time to pull 4 shots as I had to leave! I was close to dialled in by the fourth albeit a bit long but I took it with me in the car- I have to say it was very very nice. So I look forward to playing with it tomorrow. I thought I had a dodgy touch screen as it didn’t seem to respond some times but apparently there are different delay times for different choices on it.. phew..! Looks a stunning machine on the counter and I love the almost totally silent pump. I thought the water reservoir wasn’t the best design but I think I’ll get used to it and won’t have to be refilling it so often when I’m not flushing the system through and just using it to make coffee! It really is a different operation to the Elizabeth but I don’t think it will take long to get used to it. So, I can’t wait to drink coffee from it tomorrow

audiomacgyver - as for any E61 machine….

Personally, I use cafelat silicone. It lasts years (rather than months), it doesn’t bake as it’s made of silicone, and it pops out every time. Because it’s silicone, you don’t need a smear of molycote 111 on the face which faces the group, as it won’t stick anyway.

Providing you do not damage it when removing the screen for maintenance, it will do its job for a long long time.

Hi, does anyone know how often the pump PID gets a reading of the pressure sensor in the Vesuvius? Is there a contact at ACS you can recommend to ask such questions? (I’ve started a separate thread for the same question but forgot the word “vesuvius” in the title 😬 and maybe it fits better here anyway. Sorry)

Yes. It’s a lot cleaner now, but when you need an adjustable wrench every time you want water to flow from the group head, I find the inclination to backflush is seriously diminished!

Apologies for delayed late reply. I have not the time in the mornings nor the inclination in the evenings as of late. If I don’t put in 7 days a week at the moment my family will find themselves living in a building site this Christmas, which is a situation I want to avoid!

I just want to clarify - what you want to see is the cam engaging (or not) with the cam follower? If so, I’m not 100% sure how to separate the cam from the stem. Is it the two adjacent chrome-plated section la that need to be opened apart? I already had a go but didn’t want to force it, and it was a bit tricky getting two adjustable spanners on….

water doesn’t come out of the group head unless I loosen the top nut. So back flushing would involve loosening and tightening it several times. Of course you need to put a cloth on each time as otherwise the chrome plating would be absolutely mullered by now.

Here are photos at 45 degrees and raised position. It’s definitely engaging the cam follower, and indeed opens the valve a little water initially came out the group head as there was some residual pressure from this morning. It’s just when it’s actually turned on that it doesn’t work!

caffeineus_impervious My only guess is expansion of the group on heating actually means that the cam doesn’t quite push the top valve pin up far enough. The pin could be worn enough for this to happen. I would try and do is see if you can remove that top valve and then undo the pin one revolution on the thread, see if that helps. Be very careful doing this because if they are siezed it can snap the thread, and then you won’t have a working machine until you get a replacement.

Ok so 1 revolution on the cam follower did the trick again. Very odd. Is it possible it could be working it’s way loose? Surely not?

So looking forward to spanner-free coffee tomorrow morning!

That would be my bet, considering it’s a new machine. Do you have a good caliper? If so - and if you have time and energy - you may want to measure how much the follower sticks out from a reference base, and if and when it starts giving you trouble measure it again… or simply put a drop of medium-strength threadlocker on it now. (If you do that, don’t brew for a few hours - in fact, even better don’t assemble the part into the machine for a few hours)

Hi all! I have a Vesuvius (US 120v model), and just replaced the magnet inside the pump per my reseller’s instructions. After putting the machine back together and powering on both switches, the screen isn’t coming on. The green LED on the smaller of the two Gicar boards comes on when the secondary power switch is on.

The reseller is helping me, but they don’t have any specific ideas right now other than suggesting I keep checking for loose connections (I have and can find none). Any help would be appreciated!

EDIT: well, no sooner do I post there than find the issue – there was indeed a loose connection for the LED screen (the smaller ribbon cable was loose – I hadn’t seen that one before)!

andholt it’s often hard to connect the cable to the screen under the front panel. I have heard of only 1 screen failing before, they are very robust. I’m glad you got it sorted out.

I thought 1 colour had failed on my screen for many years, until I seated the ribbon cable to the screen properly.
