Ok, seals for the vac breaker arrived today. Just fitted one and the boiler sealed itself up at 108C, 0.3bar.

I’m happy with that, I didn’t use any Molykote this time as I’m sure it just got washed away with steam last time. Assume a perfect/new vac breaker valve would close at exactly 100C?

Approx 101 yeh but theres usually a little bit of a hiss and condensate in the drip tray and questions on facebook “should i see drips of eater from that thingy at the back of the drip tray when my machine is warming up” 100000000’s of the same questions. Along with should the centre bolt of my niche zero come loose if i dont tighten it properly 😎

Sometimes on the synchronika it closed early and you would get 2.6 bars showing untill you gave it a quick purge to remove the trapped air and a little steam.

Yes, I would recommend that, Maria doesn’t forget stuff. She is very good at keeping on top of things.

Hi,

I have had my Versuvius for at least 6 years, and I am delighted with it. We went on vacation for leaving the machine on by mistake, a couple of hours a day on the timer. It started up the day we got back ok - heard the pump go etc as normal, then an hour later my wife found it in a pool of water and the tank dry..

I sent it to a local espresso service shop who replaced both heating elements and cleaned the boilers. They also when they serviced it repaired the leaking water pressure valve and replaced the water air pressure valve.

The machine seems to work well, but there is more hissing than normal coming from the top of the boiler and not the usual spluttering noises via the drip tray. Just want to check they have not missed something when configuring the new valves.

In addition they don’t seem to have reconnected the water tank door stay properly - is there any additional parts required to this or is it just a matter of a keeper screw on the back of the machine.

There is a slot with a larger hole and the head of a thumb screw bolt fits in there…they may have not connected it or it may have popped out, it can usually be fiddled back in.

Hi there! I’m based in the US-CA where there isn’t a big ACS presence.

I had been considering upgrading from a Sage Infuser to a Bianca v3, but recently found a used 6yo Vesuvius local to me for the same cost as the Bianca (cheaper after tax/etc). The Vesuvius has been well maintained and I’m fairly handy. I also like its design much more than the Bianca’s.

From what I’ve read, the Vesuvius is on par if not an upgrade over the Bianca - minus, manual flow control. I won’t upgrade to a lever machine and the Bianca was at my target budget already.

What else should I ask myself to evaluate if this is the right upgrade?

Tal Maria was very responsive when I was getting thermal probes directly from ACS. She might have been away on vacation but otherwise she is very prompt.

Ok may have an issue.

I pulled the lever to flush some water through the group as I’d changed pid temp and noticed that this time the pressure built up on the display (not the group pressure gauge, that stayed at zero)? Eventually building up to around 9bar, this while using daveCs program of 18s 2bar PI then 10bar. Bear in mind this was without a portafilter in position.

My memory is a little unclear, but I don’t think this happened in the past?

I still get flow through the group, can pull espresso fine etc. I pulled the top nut and upper assembly from the group and all is clear. I activated the pump with the top assembly out and water filled the chamber.

I don’t recall pressure building up previously? Shouldn’t this be reading system pressure, so without a PF there shouldn’t be any? Or is this reading directly off the pump? If this is normal I am unsure how I never spotted it before.

If this is not normal, where is my blockage likely to be? Blockage after the pressure sensor but before the group?

The group pressure gauge is after the gicleur and on an open group, I wouldn’t expect a reading…put a blind filter in.

Flat 9bar profile, strange noise accompanying it when PF removed. Need to remove the top and see what’s happening in there

Yes, because it’s taken before the Gicleur and there is resistance.

Ok thank you, though I cannot picture how the system is configured for it to behave this way. What causes the resistance in order that there is pressure being measured without a PF/coffee?

On a separate note, my vac breaker valve arrived from Espresso solutions today, and the threads are different to the original one.

However this one that arrived has a section without thread, like the advertised La Marzocco version, which uses a copper crush washer.

My question is, is this version usable if I packed it out with ptfe tape? otherwise I’ll have to return it and go back to ACS and pay the 75 euros!
