Give that there are ~100 people out there with Deva’s, I am a bit surprised by the lack of content and buzz on social media. All i can find really is a couple basic vids on youtube (like the above) and a couple pics on IG, and this thread. I thought there would be a lot more buzz, and even some semi-pro reviews. I asked Kopi about it and their response was “it’s out of our control”. Anyone else have better luck or any insight on this?
Kopi Deva
powderhorn What’s a semi pro review?
A review by a semi-pro content social media creator? (Lots but not many qualified to review).
A review by a semi pro-grinder tester? (Not realistic).
A review by a semi-pro cricketer? :-)
Buzz is buzz, it’s fickle and largely ill informed. A lack of it is quite refreshing and not indicative of a problem. Companies who throw stuff out for kicks & clicks make me a little wary.
Seems as if you found a niche that needs filled. If you have the grinder, produce some content. Perhaps, enlist your favorite YouTuber to review it. Kopi Deva’s official instagram has “storied” content from the past year or so. But, I would agree with you, there doesn’t seem to be a huge amount of hype of buzz. Doesn’t matter to me as long as I like the grinder.
They probably didn’t give any away free to anyone,
If it’s a good product it will eventually get exposure, it needs to be readily available though for that

MWJB, appreciate your perspective. And concur. I guess by semi-pro i meant some of the more popular/better coffee folks on youtube. I guess the ones that come to mind are Hoffman, Hendricks, and Rockwell, but they seem to make a living at it, so maybe they are pros? I guess I was thinking there would be more online discussion and content from the actual KS folks that have the grinder. Even just basic stuff, like, this is my workflow, here’s some tips and tricks I found to get the best cup coffee, etc.. I look at my Deva everyday just sitting there, waiting for a new start/stop button, and wonder. It was better when i couldn’t see it everyday…. Cheers! I am really happy to find this thread!

powderhorn I’ve never heard of Rockford.
Hoffmann & Hedrick have day jobs with coffee roasters and aren’t really best placed to do technical reviews.
Anyone with enough youtube subscribers can monetise their videos, whether they’re talking about coffee making tools, or CIA space stations on a moon of Jupiter.
Put up a video of your grinder experience and update whether it gets resolved in a timely and efficient manner, that will be valuable. (I see you have already waited a week for it!)
In the meantime welcome to the world of the early adopter (…another reason to avoid buzz, review something after it has spent some time in the wild and see what the manufacturer has done to rectify bugs).

how much longer do you have to wait for the new part? I’m sure it’s a exercise in patience with a dose of frustration to have it in house but not able to use it!
once you get the part, I’d love to see your work flow with it.
I saw a random YouTube video of the KD and I had a slight concern. The top wood part seemed kinda loose and moved around when he was handling it. Hopefully not a big deal as long at the part fits properly and can be tightened. Also something on instagram where a guy had to re-glue the bottom wood piece because it had come loose.

Hoffman does technical reviews frequently… and can be pretty critical as well. He has stated in the past he doesn’t like to review crowdfunded products and waits until they become regularly available if I remember correctly.
MWJB What about Prometheus? Any fire to be had there?
CoyoteOldMan I’m not a fan of any of their content.
MWJB Well, “Sprometheus” does have 11 letters…
CoyoteOldMan Ha ha, you win the teapot! :-)

maybe the KD folks are quite glad there isn’t more buzz and hype, so they can focus on getting the Devas out to KS and Indiegogo backers. They said themselves, that upscaling is a hard task. Why create more hype and demand without being ready at this time.
The product itself is fantastic. It’s basically a P64 with better looks, a great solution for zero retention without bellows and all that for half the price.
One thing that seems to bother people here in Germany is that i runs on battery. To me it’s no concern, but some people would not buy it just because of that.
Battery

I’m in agreement, I would rather have simplicity than a battery that needs charging and then replacing at some point.
I don’t see the benefit of wireless as you will park the grinder next to your espresso machine which in all likelihood will have a cable that needs to be plugged in. Even if you have something like a Robot then you still need a kettle plugged in. It’s virtually impossible to have a fully wireless home espresso setup so why even bother.
I think it looks great in every other way, perhaps they can go wired in the future or someone can hack it.
i was joking btw
