Has anyone tried beans from Darkwood coffee and if so would you have any recommendations. I was watching James Hoffmann and he used some on his dialling in video and he seemed happy with the ones he used. I am looking for some beans to get for putting through the Vesuvius when it arrives.

id use a bean you know well, if you have one? then you can see if your around where you like to be.

@"Cuprajake"#p14047 I have been using a French press and it’s been a bit hit and miss. So it’s a case of starting out fresh with everything and hopefully improving from there.

i can highly recommend north stars Brazilian, £18 per kilo, been very consistent med roast, great through milk, very good to work with also

Re. Darkwoods….we have had a few mixed deliveries from them and the coffee has always been great. That said, their prices are a bit steeper these days - so I’d be looking somewhere else for beans to learn a new machine on.

I have had some from Hasbean, again mixed results but the best for so far were the Ethiopia Worka Wuri Yirgacheffe from Black cat coffee. Have seen some at Hasbean so might have a try again with some of theirs. It’s been the operator not the beans.

Have you brewed this North Star Brazilian?
How is this as a short or a long black?

I am really struggling to find a bag, which would interest my daughter. She mainly drinks black, doesn’t like any fruity notes or any acidity in her cup. I have made a lot of low acidity coffee for her. Nothing sticks, although she likes chocolate point. My wife has a similar taste; but she is ok with fruity notes as I mainly cut her cup with milk.

I like bright and fruity and not a fan of a low acidic coffee beans! Go figure! 😉

Thanks for all your help. Have just ordered some from dark woods coffee. Lamplight decaf , Good morning sunshine, and common grounds Bourbon whiskey Barrel aged. Can only try. Could be an expensive learning curve. Will try the ones from North Star next time.

Yeah its the go to bean for the mrs, in milk its really nice, i often have it as an Americano, its got a dark choc taste to it, with a sweet finish. Not very acidic.

Ive stayed away from decaf as i believe, well now know you need to grind finer and go hotter with it.

I know how to make it harder for myself. I am a gluten for punishment. Might try the Decaf last.
