In all the years I have fiddled with coffee, I have never had a nice set of scales. I could not bring myself to spend £100 plus, so never have! Instead I buy Ebay cheapies, but the trouble is for one reason or another, they do not last. The last pair I bought, one lasted 3 days and the others have become wet so often then they cannot have long left. Can anyone recommend a value waterproof set please?

I use Jo Frex scales. Seem to work well

I’ve had these Hario scales for about 5 years and they are still going strong. Not sure how waterproof they are but I’ve had plenty of coffee drips on them and it’s never been an issue.

Clearance under a PF can be a bit tight but never something I couldn’t work around.

Mark-drinks-coffee I have flooded, ie poured 50-200ml of coffee over, mine a LOT of times. Unscrew, tip on side to drain and leave open for a few hours to a day and they are ok. In a bag with rice if really bad. They are10 years old and still going strong.

Ive be lucky to have never drenched my scales. I use the yuanga ones from black cat at £20.

Is this for espresso or pour over, are you dictated by size

Cuprajake I also have these and have spilled coffee and hot water on it a few times and they seem to be fine after drying off with the battery taken out. Some liquid has even leaked into the LCD but hasn’t affected the display or performance yet!

I use these for weighing shots. I can’t attest to the waterproofness but they’re nice and responsive for weighing shots. I use Hario for weighing my PF and for V60 - I can attest to the quasi-waterproofness in that a spillage will make you think you broke them but dry them out and they’re back in business!

I’ve taken they plunge on fully waterproof and got the Decent ones. I actually run water through the group to rinse with the scales below. No problem. I’m short on space though.

I went through the exact same route as you, wanted something waterproof and ended up getting the Timemore Black Mirror scale. I am very happy with them. They are on the biggish side, but now have a couple of new models, including something smaller (and more expensive).

(I had [still have, actually] the Joe Frex recommended above, which are the same as the Yagua. They are fine as long as you don’t spill anything on them. But as soon as a drop of coffee goes on the buttons, they will become sticky until you open the scale and clean. I found that to be annoying. The Timemore scales solved this problem.

Apologies for jumping on this thread, but it seems pointless to open a new chat on the same topic. I’m after a new set myself having used THESE cheaper ones for a few years, but I find them laggy more than anything.

I recently bought a Bianca so I don’t need a timer, but I do use the scales on the horizontally grated dripbpanel to weigh out my shot as it extracts. This is key because I recently bought THESE as a bit of an upgrade, but unfortunately, they don’t work on the Bianca because the weight sensors are in the feet (not the top).

So I need some that have the weight sensor on the top and have been researching previously recommended scales by other users. I like them to look half decent so I don’t like many of whats been suggested before, such as the yuaga or Joe Frex models. I do like the eCoaster for £30 but does it weigh on top or via the feet? I also quite like the Hario scales recommended in this chat thread, but they are starting to push my budget limit in all honesty.

I like the Timemore ones, but they are a bit expensive for me and I also wonder if they weigh from the top or via the feet? Finally, I’ve seen some bemece which look a decent set of scales for the money.

I think you can see by the scales I’ve linked that I’m after a specific style. Can anyone help me with the questions I’ve posed about the various models?

I have the Timemore Black Mirror scales. I don’t know the technicalities, but they work with no problem on the Mara X drip tray, which I think is the same as the Bianca. They where ~£30 from AliExpress, and are on the biggish side. The smaller model (Nano?) is double the price.

Doram thanks Doram. The Timemore are nice, but probably a little too expensive for me. The reason I included them is because I like the overall design. If none of the others did what I required of them, I’d likely go with the Timemore, so in that respect, it’s good to know that they can do the job. Can you do me a sma favour though - if you hold it in the palm of your hand without touching the feet, you’ll know whether it weighs from the top by pressing down with your finger (without touching the feet). If you get hardly anything registering, the weight sensors are obviously in the feet, but if you get instant weight readings, the sensors are on the top.

It would be great if you wouldn’t mind checking that for me as its a big deal breaker for me.

Doram I also have the Timemore Black Mirror that I bought a year ago from Aliexpress and they’re great. I use them on my Pavoni so if they fit on that they should fit on every machine.
