tompoland I have a couple of Kruve sifter sets, as Kruve have recently changed the sizes of the stock sieves that come with the sifter.
I tend to use either a 400Kruve sifter in the bottom and the largest I have in the top, 1100 minimum up to 1600 (my default first sift is 400 & 1600). Kruve did supply all their sifters with a 400 for the first few years.
The later sets have 500 as the most practical smaller size for filter and 1400 as the largest size.
Primarily focus on the % passing through the 400/500, These sizes will be more indicative of the grind size needed for a given V60 method. The larger size in the top will give an indication as to how wide/narrow the distribution, The average grind size is less critical, so I wouldn’t torture yourself trying to identify this.
Use 0.01g scales to weigh, carefully brush out the grinds with a brush, I use a jam funnel to sweep the grinds into, on a catch cup. I use a 10g grind sample, up to 20g seems to work OK.
