Hello. I found my way here when searching for something and figured I might as well partake. I’ve been on coffeeforums.uk a few years, but there looks to be a bit more activity in the brewed coffee category here. V60 is the only thing I use, lately with the drip assist.
Mark has been a tremendous resource and help through the forum, his blog and Youtube channel. The result has been pretty consistent brews for months, until I had to resupply my V60 papers and realized they had changed them.
The tools has been gathered to improve my brews and understanding of the complexity of coffee. I’ve read a lot through the years and feel like I’m making small steps forward here and there, but long ways to go yet. My palate struggle to notice details in brews that can indicate which way to go, and data the tools is helpful.
I have a Google sheet for recording my brews, but it could be better. Mark has shared from his own sheets many times, but I don’t know if I got the whole picture. Maybe individual brews were on a different sheet and summarized. If anyone wants to share a sheet or workbook I can copy for myself, I’d appreciate it. There’s been good learning just from looking through others’ brew logs. Have a peak at sifting results, EY, scores and how different they can be. Same goes for this topic.
I found half a pack of the old, pink Hario papers, but want to make something work with a paper I can buy more of. I ordered some Rombouts no. 4 that I’ll be having a go at. They look quite similar to the Moccamaster 4 papers we use for the drip maker. If I could end up needing only one paper for both, that’d be nice.
Quick question: Pipettes are often used for sampling coffee when measuring TDS, but is there a reason not to use a regular teaspoon? I think I got some pipettes still, but spoons are easier to clean and less hassle.
