  • How to store the coffee beans during usage?

Empty a bag into the hopper and leave them there like it’s 2007.

Seriously 😁

That’s for espresso at least.

For filter, I single-dose with the C40 and use an Airscape to put the beans in once a bag is open.

Thanks guys, many beautiful thoughts here for my beeans better use.

LOL if i did so my shots go down the sink in shortly days after opening the bag 😂

      Systemic

      Hahaha.

I’ll happily let a £14 bag of Burundi stale in a hopper for a day or three. Shock horror I know.

Honestly, whilst I can taste the difference in fresher beans, grinding from the hopper on-demand I’m still getting delicious coffee I’m happy with and coffee that’s a country mile better than anything I get served locally. I just enjoy the workflow that way.

      I’d probably not even single-dose the C40 if I could fit 100g in 😂.

I’m not a coffee connoisseur (coffee snob), far from it, its a drink as far as I’m concerned.

      Airscape does for me.

For me part 1 is using 1-way valves after roasting and for resting the roast.

Part 2 is once I open a bag then Airscape, I take the point about opening and closing any container so in my case the smallest Airscape which I think is 320g or something like that, the shortest one basically and only fill it a third. That coffee goes within a couple of days then repeat from the 1-way valve bag.

Historically I tried vacuum bags but did not want to freeze beans or go to heat sealing them. If I did the latter I would probably find small 150g to 200g bags that have enough room to cut the seal then re-seal as needed but as I get older I can’t be ar5ed to go to this effort.

Systemic Vac pack my beans in 100grms bags. Beans on the go are stored in Airscape containers.

Beans in storage are in the freezer as received from roaster

Beans in use - I bought a kitchen container which has a pump in the lid. Pulls a vacuum OK as the lid becomes unmovable

      BUT…………not fit for purpose

as container was clear ( subject to daylight) and lid could be removed after 3days ( loss of vacuum..!! )

so bought a black Airscape which seems to work better

Systemic Doesn’t need to be a fancy all singing and dancing version.

      link please………….🙂

drdre89 tx I’ll take that … dedication … addiction … obsession … I just REALLY like espresso at its thickest and tastiest Giphy - Curse Them Boy Meets World GIF

simonc local council will not recycle them but that supermarket offers a drop service for small plastic bags that are not accepted in other places.

I have tried bio degradable pouches that were sold as vacuum capable but alas they didn’t survive my 600watt vacuum sealer.

Generally I’ll keep about a week worth of beans in an Airscape canister. Anything above that goes in an airtight bag in the freezer.

Are the bags that coffee comes in with the one way valve ok to be put straight into the freezer?

KyleT absolutely. For best results grind while still frozen though. My wife has a decaf once a month so I keep,a bag frozen and weigh out 18g direct from the freezer bag then grind real quick.

And make sure the zip lock is well sealed each time to prevent moisture getting inside the bag. Not a biggie but helpful.

As soon as mine arrive in their recyclable zip lock bags with one-way valve, I pop them in the freezer . It takes me literally seconds from taking them out of the freezer, opening the bag tipping out the required mount and re-sealing the bag and popping back in the freezer. I have a method of getting as much air out as possible…I place the bag on the worktop, placing it so the beans overhangs the edge. Using the edge of the worktop I push the bag up so the beans are compressed driving out the air and press the zip-lock closed….job’s a goodun!

I know I should know this but….Why if it only lets air out?

They don’t only let air out….they say they do, but they are fibbing.
