Ernie1 Yeah snack pricing is all over the place and it’s always the divisive foods that are cheap. Bananas are about 7p each or something but my other half can’t stand them. Supermarket sales don’t help either, saw an ad the other day for their ‘deals of the week’ - frozen chips, fish fingers, Mars ice cream bars and potato waffles…
Cuprajake It really annoys me Government moan about the state of the NHS but 60% if not more issues arise from poor diet. Educate and regulate food correctly and it would have a positive result
ajohn Tesla has slashed the price of their cars in China ~½ the USA price. ;) That would probably be more than ½ here. It’s where his biggest plant is. Others doing the same - pass. Development costs have to be recovered so maybe the rich are paying that at the moment. It’s hard to predict what will happen. A world without the car industry? That would be interesting. A pure electric car to cover say a 50mile round trip commute and recharge over night sounds feasible to me. I worked on EV’s a while ago that used that factor. 1 tonne vans. The majority of them don’t need more than a 50mile range. ;) The battery that was used at the time - bit of a joke, Way too heavy but they did their 50miles. Tiny cars with no space for shopping, kids and even dogs wouldn’t be popular. Other options are on your bike, catch a bus or train or walk. Say a 200mile trip to Cornwall for a holiday and imagine how many charging points would be needed there.
Cuprajake Sadly the last few options are all on strike lol As idealistic as it is having a car that does 50miles. When an emergency arises and your cars on charge, you would need it
ajohn Cuprajake When an emergency arises and your cars on charge, you would need it ;) Uber or an ambulance.
Ernie1 The thing I can’t get my head around is how charging stations are going to work. I mean I’m pretty much queuing every time I fill up with fuel already, and it takes about 90 seconds to fill up. Imagine turning up and all the charge points are occupied, better bring a good book!
Cuprajake ajohn I know we joke but that doesn’t always work and it is something to think about. Motor assisted seems best but we need it so cars are doing 100+ mpg
CafeCalando Cuprajake Seems like Toyota are warning about going down an EV only route. https://insideevs.com/news/650150/toyota-says-ev-extremists-are-wrong/
Nightrider_1uk ajohn A few years back, I used to contract. 260 miles each way. How often would `i have needed to stop with a pure electric vehicle. Also continued ultrafast charging of the batteries would knock the stuffing out of then in no time Gagaryn When I was a teenager, I had a milk round job on one of those Unigate jobbies.
Cuprajake In the same breath the government warn us about electricity black outs and praise people for not using electricity at peak times So many mixed messages
DavecUK As a country, we can do NOTHING about climate change, our effect if we stopped producing CO2 would effectively be Zero. If we try and persuade the rest of the world at a climate conference, they will all nod sagely, agree it should be done. Then when we start doing it, they will be like….. and laughing at us.
Cuprajake well the new kia kv6 gt is 550hp - does 260miles range, so you could get there in half the time haha
Nightrider_1uk Cuprajake @😂😀 If I could afford even one 1/10th of the price, i’d doubt that i’d have been able to drive ll the way there without stopping. Even assuming I could, I need a vehicle with a more upright sitting position, to cope with my arithmetic knees and dodgy back, hence my choice to drive an S-Max. And don’t even get me started on charging
DavecUK Cuprajake 62K, wow. Electric cars are generally a ridiculous price. I don’t know how people can afford new cars nowadays with the price of everything going up. I suspect people are hanging onto cars as long as possible. Partly through cost and partly because whoever is in power in 2029 will probably not have the ban on Petrol, because no one will be ready for electric cars. Or perhaps they think that for some reason we will all let the train take the strain…and use public transport.
Rob666 DavecUK No, the idea is we all stop using cars (except the very rich) and stop moving about. Work from home, get everything we need delivered and only go out in our local area for exercise.
Cuprajake I think - conspiracy hat on - you will own nothing and be happy I think the high costs for people into £3-400 pm lease deals. Hat off parts prices are extortionate Mirror on a fiesta £500 on a BMW X5 £1000
DavecUK Cuprajake Hat off parts prices are extortionate Mirror on a fiesta £500 on a BMW X5 £1000 There is something that clearly needs to be done about parts pricing….and no one should buy cars where they take the piss out of the consumer like this.
