I think humanity is doomed, but our generation has not done nearly enough to try and slow climate change. Its older people own homes, meat eating pets, tumble dryers, outdoor hot tubs, fly multiple times per year, generally eat meat and diary. Then they use one of their wasteful SUVs to drive a few yards to Waitrose to buy some coriander and the Daily Mail. Yes, if I were young I would be pretty angry too.

I am a dinosaur. The earth has been around for billions of years where metamorphosing or evolution has always gone on. Despite the extreme views of the vocal mob, I do not buy into climate change as a concept, even though I understand that there will be many who wish to shout me down. Shouting me down still does not make them right. We have come through many periods of time. What caused the Ice Age I wonder in a time before technology beyond a flint knife existed? Yet still it happened. We life in a nasty time currently. With diversity and the minority able to emotionally blackmail the majority, mainly due the the success of social media. Let us hope that if folks object to what I say, we can all still remain friends and respect each others views

yes, the earth has undergone many climate changes of a huge nature over its existence, the point isn't about that though, it's about what we are doing that is accelerating it from the naturally occurring incidents (like meteor strikes or huge volcanic eruptions) and basically consigning the human race to a rotten future if we don't change our ways. you can believe what you want, but it doesn't make you right or worth listening to on the subject because what you are saying is yet more rubbish that is being driven by this idiotic culture war.

The last question is the most difficult as it’s down to many things:

Industrialisation
the effects of industrialisation (oceans, forests and other habitats), through felling, damming, building, overfishing, pollution etc..

If it was a simple as more CO2 there would be more plankton, plants would grow, scavenging the extra CO2, the same as happened when oil was forming. Dinosaur shite no doubt made methane and the climate cycled. We have had a number of ice ages

You have to remember we can’t stop climate change, we can’t even stop the burning of fossil fuels and it’s a nonsense to think we can. People don’t stop until there’s none left…it’s the way we are. You think India or China, the African nations, Russia, USA etc.. are going to stop, of course they won’t, not until it’s mostly gone.

They will all talk a good talk and do bugger all, as usual. The smart nations will realise it’s going to run out and “possibly” get governments that will start a Nuclear power programme before the lights go out and we huddle in front of newspaper fires in our front rooms.

Trouble is we don’t like other countries to have nuclear power do we….?

The big problem will be when all the oil and gas has been spaffed up the wall by combusting it, and we have no synthetics, medicines, fertilisers, lubricants and all the other good things.

I am probably stating the obvious here, but the facts behing climate change (and the human activity driven nature of it) are indisputable.

Any doubters can have a look at the very recent report by the United Nation’s IPCC:

And, although some of the changes are irreversible and ‘locked-in’, I think that doomism (‘we cannot stop climate change’) leads to inaction which will only make things worse.

DavecUK I can only talk in layman’s terms as I am not an expert by any means.

The minimum for any government is to stop all new projects that will increase emissions (oil fields, coal mines etc) while acclelerating the introduction of renewables (which, admittedly, cannot entirely cover our energy needs at the moment).

Plus lots of other measures, such as banning short haul flights where there are other alternatives (I think that France is planing to so this).

I acknowledge that things look bad, but giving up feels like a betrayal to future generations.

The people who should be setting an example are telling us what to do…e.g. did that flat above number 10 really need full redecoration, had Cameron trashed it that badly in 4 years? Or Harry and Meghan in their private, jet and lavish lifestyle. There are thousands of others.

People around the world watch these lifestyles with envious eyes. I remember years ago someone telling me they were getting a new kettle because the colour didn’t match the kitchen, hands up who gets a new car every 3 years, hands up those who went on holiday abroad this year.

Is there some Psy Op, I don’t think so, I believe it’s simply the virtue signalling “we” all love so much, if we didn’t then they wouldn’t do it. It’s the easiest way to move through life for many, no need to think or concern oneself with anything.

How do we do that? Even the climate change movement is being heavily profited from and as soon as there are profits, activities and end games become not about the planet, but about the pocket.

Even in this set of miserable circumstances we find ourselves in, the way out is to appeal to greed. if it’s cheaper to be green, people will start to do it, then public opinion will change from worshipping the virtuous celebrities to seeing it as unnecessary excess.

Most of my own green initiatives are also much cheaper! e.g. keeping the car for at least 10 years.

P.S. Being cheaper doesn’t mean raising the price of alternatives…that’s simply bludgeoning people into being green and the poor will lose out, as usual.

Listening to Money-box radio 4 Friday, many listeners calling in on this subject.

Suppliers are not permitted to do this (although they do). You should contact your supplier and ask why.

If you have changed supplier they are allowed to do this until they get conformation from previous supplier Ref any moneys owing. They should keep this money in a ‘ring fenced ’ account and return any remaining to you.

In situations where money box became involved money was returned.

Elcarajillo British gas have really irritated me in the past, my credit balance is now over £600, keeps going up every month. I was waiting for the call to say as you new fixed plan is more than bloody double what you were paying for electric, and 3 times what you are paying for gas we’re going to increase your monthly payment by loads and maintain an even larger credit balance.

So far they don’t seem to have done that, and estimated super fairly on my old plan stopping and new massively expensive plan starting. Perhaps one day they will be able to read my smart meters themselves.

back to peddling on a fixed bike to generate my own power, until someone figures out a way to get cows to fart into gasometers (before they get rid of them all). Saving the climate and bringing down gas costs. It could be like a milking machine…….setup, but to extract gas.
