I had covid about a month ago. Same as you, I was off coffee for a few days. Then one morning I felt better, went to make my usual flat white and was surprised by the taste of nothing. Not quite nothing, I could taste the bitter end notes of the coffee but only that. Thankfully it wasn’t much in that particular cup. I would say I couldn’t taste the acidity, the body (do you “taste” body?) and most of the chocolate notes. Over the next few days my taste gradually came back and I started tasting more chocolate and then the acidity in that order. I would describe it as a “hole” in the centre of the palate/taste experience. Quite a shock at first. I think mine’s all come back now so hopefully yours does too. In my experience as a healthcare worker, it’s a minority that experience loss of taste and for most people it’s transient. So cheer up, the numbers are on your side!
