Does anyone have one of these tampers? … I'm looking at purchasing a calibrated tamper. This is local to me in Oz 🇦🇺 but still very expensive. @"tompoland"#p16274 Nice work. They are expensive. Do you use an O.C.D type tool to level out the puck first … or do you just tamp straight away and the Eztamp does the job? I'm not sure whether to get the red gum or iron bark . Want to get something that matches closely to the Niche Zero wood grain.

So I switched to a puck rake and that gives more consistent results, provided I pay careful attention when I rake. They are expensive but I always think that I spend so much on a premium machine and a premium grinder that it warrants going premium on accessories such as a tamper or puck rake or scale.

Exactly what I found….I did some tests with layers and marking lines on the coffee bed….using one and then tamping. End result…layers were unmoved, lines intact.

@"DavecUK"#p16296 Same here. Stopped using an OCD type spinner for same reason. Might give a nice flat surface but will compress one side more than the if other if not level first. And if it is level after raking then no need to ocd. Now just rake and tamp and consistent pulls

Uncletits I loved Sidney when I went there….absolutely fantastic city. I was only there for about 10 days, but found it friendly, much cheaper than the UK. Even managed a trip to Katoomba by train, an amazing scenic railway trip to an incredible place.

I ordered the iron bark but they sent me the red gum instead. Which I actually prefer. 😁

When using it got to make sure you push it down straight and not on an angle.

Re level tamping: same for all tamper but with this one you can adjust the depth and provided that’s ok it is pretty much self levelling of course due the flanges that stop once they hit the top of the basket. I woulnt go back to a standard tamper now that I’ve used the self levelling version for so long.

I suspect that an uneven tamp is a common cause of channeling and many wont be aware of it.

I had a tiny spirit level to test the evenness of my tamps by sitting it on top of the puck post-tamp (yes, strange and concerned looks from my wife) but that became redundant with my first self levelling tamper. Yay.
