My Gene is 15 years old. Came to do a roast today and got the E4 error (heating element fail). I had this issue in October 2014 and it was fixed with a new heater. I definitely want to keep roasting and like the Gene. Options I can think of are:
- Replace the heater again - £74 + shipping from BB (but the thing is 15 years old).
- Buy a new Gene – currently on offer for £379 (normal price £479) and keep the old one for spares (or try to sell with a dead heater for someone else to fix - if anyone wants to buy it as is, now is a good time to tell me).
- Buy a new Gene AND a new heater. Fix the old one myself and sell it (any offers for that?).
What would you do?
P.S. My Gene is from 2007. I got seven years (2007-2014) our of the original heater (230w) and another 7 years from the second heater (240w - 2015-2022). I know people say a 240w heater will last longer in the UK than a 230w heater, but from my experience there is no difference between them.
