As an update to an old thread, current price on the R2 is NT$68,000, which a quick back-of-envelope calculation (okay, Windows calculator) is a quid or so short of £1900. And that’s the direct pricing, in Taiwan, so it’spretty much nailed on that you can add VAT to that, bringing it up to some £2280 here. Plus shipping, and the VAT on shipping. And even that assumes 0% import duty, which I rather imagine is an unrealistic assumption.
So I doubt anyone’s getting one direct from TW at much under about £2500.
This may explain why Bella Barista don’t seem to be stocking it. That’s a guess, by he way - I haven’t asked them.
Anyway, it suggests to me a very specific demographic for buyers, and one that doesn’t include me, at anything like that price.
Which, as I’m back to thinking about roasters, leaves me looking at the R1 (I still have a problem with the whole app thing), Behmor or, most likely, Gene Cafe. And I’m no further forward than I was 6 months ago.
