Hiya I'm thinking of retiring my well worn Porlex mini from camping duties & looking for a replacement that would fit inside an Aeropress. It would primarily be used for Aeropress/Pour Over/Clever Dripper with the occasional Espresso use. I was thinking about maybe getting one of the revamped Knock Aergrind's & was wondering if anyone had got their hands on one & how they fare? If not one of these, does anyone have another suggestion that might fit the bill? Cheers

I’ve got the original Aergrind and it’s really nice. It’s coming to Nice with me next week with its friend the Aeropress!

@"PartySausage"#p20071 I have the original Aergrind and it's fantastic, very good quality and I would imagine significantly better than your Porlex. I assume the new version is better still. I'm not sure if the new version is slightly taller than the old one but should still be portable enough.

A quick search suggests original Aergrind is anywhere between 13.6cm & 14.5cm tall & the website says the new one is 16.7cm, which seems tall & is 3cm taller than the Porlex Mini, though I'm unsure whether Knock are including the height with the handle fitted or not. I might drop them an email & ask. With my trimmed down Aeropress & a bit of constructive packing. I can get my Mug, Aeropress, Grinder etc in the neoprene case from a 1l SIGG bottle & was hoping to be able to do the same with whatever I replaced the Porlex with.

@"PartySausage"#p20151 don't know if it's worth it but the 1zpresso Q2 is very well priced in Oz and they make really good grinders (I have original Aergrind, Feld2 and 1Z's J-Max). It also fits in Aeropress, lol!

PortafilterProcrastinator I’ve also got a 1Zpresso K-Max, which is geared towards those brewing methods, though it will apparently do Espresso but that’s more the realm of the J-series, which has a finer grind adjustment.
I use for Aeropress/V60/CCD when I’m on holis. Works well, easy to adjust, dismantle, clean & re-zero when it’s all back together. I’ve no problem recommending that. I’m sure there are many, many others that would fit the bill too.

I’ve been planning on getting myself a hand-grinder as a back up for some time now - I’ve decided to grab an Aergrind 2nd from Ebay at £75 which is half the price of the new ones now, that’s a steal.

You people have me thinking now I might need to get a hand grinder, what if power blackouts do become a reality? How do I grind beans with only electric grinders? Now on to the hand grinder research phase of this coffee craze!! I’d certainly go for the feld seconds but wouldn’t know what customs would come up with here inbound

Thinking aeropress would be most universal and could use for work too and have narrowed it to timemore nano or izpresso q2 based on prices and availability here. Any thoughts between these two?

So,yeah, coz I was thinking of emergencies (power cut - imagine you couldn’t make a nice coffee in the morning!!) going on trips away and work so I was thinking a good quality hand grinder with an aeropress. both timemore nano and 1Zpresso q2 fit within the aeropress and are approx €120 new here

Edit: would it be permitted as carry on luggage though???!!

Don’t see why not - there are no blades, it’s certainly not too heavy, and you aren’t carrying liquids over 100 ml.

Security staff may be curious about it, but I can’t see that it would be a problem

Cuprajake yeah could do that I suppose but still run the risk of customs surprise! I can get the other two I list above (timemore nano and 1Zpresso q2) here though, and wouldn’t need to bother anyone and would have viable warranty/support if needed. What’s the overall opinion on these two in comparison?
