Smartweigh scale finally back

I quite often get asked where I got my scale from and they had been out of production for many years, but it seems they are back on amazon. They used to be £8.99, sadly they seem to have doubled in price now.

DavecUK just fiy, there’s some sort of issue on safari mobile with the amazon link. It only displays the amazon logo and it is not clickable.

Look good - if only they were more than 100g limit!

I need some new scales as my current £10 budget set have finally got liquid in the display and it is only a matter of time.

For v60 - otherwise too many sets of scales around. Whilst I might like the idea of one set of espresso scales and one set of pour over scales, that’s not going to go down well at all.

That’s what I have at the moment, except branded ‘On Balance’. They’re pretty good, but I don’t find them responsive/ quick enough. After 2 years of use the ingress is starting to show as well.

Are you sure? This is not the case with the other 4 scales I have. In fact, it won’t make any sense if that was the case, because then they might as well say 400g capacity as the display can accommodate that.

Maybe you have a version that has a higher capacity?

The rechargeable batteries wouldn’t work well with jewellery scales,
would it? Mine is temperamental. It sets to zero without any weight. No sooner I keep a cup, the display would show a lo battery and will switch itself off. Strangely, this doesn’t happen with standard batteries! 😏

LMSC a rechargeable cell has a full charge voltage of 1.2 volts which is close the output of a non rechargeable cell when it is almost fully discharged. If the scales or any device are not designed to use rechargeable cells either by automatically detecting the cell type or by you pressing a switch or altering something in their setup to tell it you are using rechargeables you will get these odd effects and messages that the battery is low.

I use black eneloop AAA cells on mine, probably it has been 1.5 years I haven’t recharged them. They still going strong 😂

This is the scales, obviously I paid 4.99 or so few years back

Inspector I see. I have the same rechargeable - both AAA and AA. I think my scales are faulty and erratic then.

PortafilterProcrastinator Mine are over five years old and I’ve just repaired them for the second time. A couple of minutes with a file and a soldering iron. I’ve also bodged a card screen between the E61 exhaust and the scales since that was where most of the moisture was coming from. I will come up with a more elegant solution in time…

How do you find the responsiveness? Depending on the bean I have to stop mine 2-3g before the target weight in order to be there or there about. I am not suggesting I would be able to taste the difference if I could be more accurate.

Perhaps I should use the current weather as a prompt to get on with it and fix as necessary and not contribute to the woes of the world.

PortafilterProcrastinator I have some much more expensive Brewistas which suffer from exactly the same water ingress problems and are just as ‘laggy’ as the cheap and cheerful ones. I just allow for the overshoot now and I’ve been doing it for so long it’s second nature. :)

No scales since I got my Evo. For 18g, the 8 bars give me about 30g, 7.5 bars 35-36g, 7 bars about 40g, 6.5 bars 45g and 6 bars 50g! All are give or take 2g-3g.

MWJB I’ve splashed mine plenty, it still works…but I don’t think they are meant to be. They will only go from 0-103 before they go out of range

The link worked for me yesterday, and still works now with Safari on iOS. Maybe a configuration issue with your device?
