'Proper' Coffee and IBS

My wife has something similar but fortunately coffee isn’t a factor for her.

How are you making the coffee? If it’s espresso or a metal filter, maybe it’s the oils, maybe try a paper/cloth filter?

Espresso with my ‘attempt’ at milk frothing for her as Espresso is too strong on it’s own for her

Have she tried lactose free milk? My wife has to have that as “normal” dairy is a trigger for her.

gordy53 so she suggested stopping fresh Coffee and going back to instant for a while and lo and behold it was fine again so she thought that she would try a fresh Decaff again and after having it she felt bad again,

How does your wife take her instant coffee?

@gordy53 What size shot do you give her?

Not my wife, but a similar circumstance with a close friend. The issue turned out to be the size of the shot/ espresso. Rather than use a full double (normally for me 36-45g) I take 20g out and then fill the rest with either water or milk. So basically as @MWJB has suggested - dilution.

yes thanks for that, I usually give her a ‘double’ in a mug topped up with milk or boiled water, I will ask her if she wants to ‘try a single’ this weekend, thanks for the suggestions folks!

well, I made my wife a Single Decaff yesterday in her usual size cup and she was fine with it even though it looked piss weak to me so I think we have cracked it, I will use my 1ZPresso J Max for her Coffee so I do not have to ‘faff around’ with my Eureka Mignon Spelita for my ‘normal’ Coffee as it takes me a while to dial it in, I’m finding it fiddly to say the least but the machine is only a month or so old and I have to get used to it

I never got the hang of making a single taste nice, which is why I make a double and then split it in half (after stirring).

it was the first time I have ever used the Single Basket and it turned out as my first ‘sloppy’ puck, not sure why as I made my Coffee (a double) and it was fine straight after but I am out of DeCaff so I will order some and I am actually looking at Rave Coffee and will try them for my next Coffee, never used them before, I used Pact for years and years and Bella Barista and do like their Milk Buster, there is just too much choice, it is a bit overwhelming really

I am very happy with the machine, it is such small movements to dial it in to the Coffee I am using but I know it could also be Tamping pressure as well but as is known it is frustrating sometimes to get it just right but when it is right it’s great
