Over the W/end the squirrel was collecting Hazel nuts. Has the space / time continuum slipped ??

Might as well make the best of it, as there is nothing poor old Blighty can do about it. Much like throwing a chipolata down the motorway of life, as the old joke goes.

I agree the effect from UK would be almost insignificant, and it would help with the heating bills,but

we are already seeing crops dying off through excess heat (and lack of water) also crops seeds that will not germinate because it is too hot / dry.

Crops which have previously done well here will not grow / very poorly.

Farmers are already saying they cannot obtain sufficient water for crops, lower rainfall= empty reservoirs.

dutchy101 Remember China’s commitment is only to Zero out emissions, not net zero. Just like we are a 230V country but not really. I do wish the environmental groups would go glue their heads to roads in China, as there’s nothing we can do in the UK.

If all our emmisions went to zero tomorrow it would make no difference. In fact, someone would snap up those excess fossil fuels the same day. I’ve reduced my own energy usage to the absolute minimum…I can’t get it any lower.

Elcarajillo I don’t disagree, apart from one point (water), but whatever we do with our emissions, it won’t and can’t make any difference….so why beat up our economy in some mad rush for net zero in 1950, when no one else is…great virtue signalling, but very damaging.

As for water, would have been nice to see the private companies build some reservoirs, non have been built since 1991. Our population has increased in that time from 57 million to 68 million. a rise of almost 20%. had a few reservoirs been built to cater for the population growth, we undoubtedly would not have all these shortages…because as a country we get plenty of rain….and most homes now have water meters.

I have just got back from a dog walk, and a farmer who has a sheep field nearby was telling me how he has had to start feeding the sheep his winter feed as the grass is too dry for them.

An armature weather station that’s not too far from me reports that in July we’ve had 6mm of rain, and the average according to Google is 55mm.

I agree , the water companies do very little to maintain the infrastructure,

I agree, there is very little forward planning for water, they are totally negligent in raw sewage discharge into streams, rivers and the sea, lots of promises but no action.

Because of increase in housing and lack of rainfall in the S/E they are now talking about a pipeline to take water from the North down to S/E.

At the moment the river Severn is so low they are pumping water from deep underground to maintain a reasonable level.

Elcarajillo Somehow successive governments of all colours can see the small things with crystal clarity e.g. Personal Pronouns…but somehow the really big things seem invisible to them.

Our energy security is something I worried about for over 20 years, somehow governments sleepwalked into that as well.
