Lelit Bianca - Temperature overshooting

Hey all, I took delivery of my new Bianca a couple of weeks ago and am obviously in love.

Dave’s videos and reviews have been super helpful in sussing things out and getting acclimatised and I am pulling some great slayer shots with this and my Compak F10 grinding miles finer than I have been able to before. Just one small issue:

I have set the machine to display true boiler temperature rather than set value so that i know I am good to pull a shot and have noticed that post shot and even after a small flush, the PID is overshooting by 3-5 degrees (89 set temp is landing at 92-94) before fairly slowly falling back down to the set temperature.

It isnt ages but is long enough that I am having to wait between flush and pulling my actual shot, or between shots whilst dialling in.

My PID settings are as recommended by your guides @DavecUK. Wondering if I need to further reduce the proportional constant if this is resulting in too much heating as soon as colder water flows into the boiler (though I guess this is set this way to improve shot temp stability during extraction)

Appreciate any advice in advance!

That’s quite on the lower end of the scale, if I’m honest. I owned E61s before, and never really ventured below 91C.

MediumRoastSteam I would normally sit at 92-94 but was getting some roasty notes I’m not a fan of out of the current beans so tried dropping it off a bit

tobyjrn6 Don’t flush before the shot.. you are at the extremes of temperature testing and PID setup that I did. Hence more variability. I set a compromise so the machines work best at 90 to 94.

I have set my machine to Dave’s recommendations, my understanding is that the displayed temperature is not the boiler temperature but if I recall correctly 10 degrees lower ?

@tobyjrn6 when you say you’ve set your machine as per Dave’s PID settings and to display actual boiler temp , does this then mean that your machine shows a temp of 103 if you select you want coffee water temp of 93 ?

I’m a bit confused 🤔

It should display the temperature at the group, by means of using an offset parameter which is user configurable (e.g: 14). Therefore, if you set your temperature to be 94C, the machine will keep the temperature inside the boiler at 108C. By the time it gets to the diffuser at the group, it should be 94C.

When Dave tests the machines, the proposed settings considers all of that. So if you input those correctly, as per review/user guide, you are in a good place.👍

Waitforme The Bianca an be set to show only the target brew temp (so it doesn’t change) or the live brew temp (minus offset). I assume the poster meant the latter.

I was wondering about this today, how does one go about switching to live temp as opposed to target temp?

Del_UK - there’s a setting in the advanced menu called TR (if memory doesn’t fail me). set it to 1.

Sorry delayed response from me on this one but you guys are exactly right. Live brew temp displayed = boiler temp - offset.

Switched this on by changing TR from 0 to 1

Thanks! I find it much more useful to have the actual temperature rather than a desired one!
