I have noticed quite a difference from roasters when spending over a certain amount, free delivery kicks in.

I’ve seen free delivery after a £20, £25 and £30 spend. £20 for a local roaster here in North Yorkshire, £25 for Rave and the £30 for Darkwood. Makes a big difference to what I can and when I buy. Is this down to some roasters coffees being more specialist and therefore dearer to import, or what?

Guessing it’s about profit margins. I don’t like the term ‘free delivery’. There’s a cost involved in shipping an order to a customer which has to be covered somewhere.

Yes. Free shipping suggests you’re getting something for nothing which you aren’t.

Systemic Not quite, if you send over 1,000 tracked 24 or 48 items by Royal Mail per year, you qualify for free delivery.

My go-to roaster these days is Django. His kilo prices are quite favourable, and it seems that every time he has a new batch of beans to publicise he puts a 30% site-wide discount out to email subscribers. But mainly because I think his tastes have a lot of overlap with mine. Lots of naturals and modern processes, mostly around the medium roast mark.

Not mega light, I would say medium or on the lighter side of medium. Will depend on the bean obviously, but nothing I’ve had from him has tasted roasty, nor too light.

I would definitely say their medium is on the lighter side of medium. Not full on light, but if you were to compare their medium with a medium from say Darkwoods, Rave or Wogan, then it would be noticeably lighter.

I think I have some of all three in my freezer at home. If I remember to later on, I’ll take a pic to show what I mean.

Sorry a little late to the chat, I’ve been using Cotswold coffee for my beans as they’re fairly local to me. The beans have been very consistent and their range has a great variety of flavours !!!

I have received a bag of coffee from Zennor, gifted to me very kindly by one of my pals on here. It is strange for me to think about lighter roasted coffee. Back in the days of cfuk, after discussion it was decided to introduce for a bit of fun, Darker Side Of Life. This was the forerunner to what is now referred to as Lighter Side Of Life but it was the original idea of arranging for a roaster who specialised in the dark stuff. I always detested the idea of lighter roasted coffee for espresso so drank medium/plus beans.

But, I have been drinking lighter roasted beans for a month now for filter but I still have 1 ½ kilos of darker stuff for espresso. When that starts to run down I am going to try lighter stuff, hence the resurrection of this thread that I have not yet read from start to finish, but will!

dfk41 Hope you enjoy the light roast from Zennor. They sell some lovely coffee, though on the expensive side. 😊
