I've been a forum user for many a year, and one thing I notice is that people who have the same hobbie often have other similarities. For instance pet cats. Or cycling. So what hobbies do you have outside of making a stellar cup of coffee Me, I've played ice hockey and mainly inline hockey since the age of 10, Im also a keen angler, and I do love my audio visual stuff, listen to music most nights on my headphone. @"Cuprajake"#p23650 I think, from looking at your food prep on the other thread, you forgot to mention that you are a bit of a foodie and a good cook. That would be a first common point (or two?) I'm also an audio - not video - buff. Or thereabouts. Cycling, martial arts, dogs. Though the latter are both more and less than a "hobby" - they are furry kids on 4 legs. Art and antiques. Minerals, gems and jewellery - including antique jewellery. Woodworking. Reading, reading, reading.

Cooking, reading and DIY - gardening, networking, painting the house. Speaker and whole house automation projects are still pending for a lack of time.

I used to cycle a lot, road and off road cycling. Haven't ridden for a while now, even before the pandemic. I still have the bikes but no time and no energy, mostly due to work. I've been doing martial arts on and off for years, did maybe 4 years of white gi Shotokan karate, had a bit of a break from that and for the last 10 years I've been doing what we loosely term karate jutsu. Basically it's MMA with Japanese etiquette and a black gi to distinguish ourselves from the traditional dō forms. Basically the chief instructor has done several arts and used to work the doors, so he stripped out all the kata forms etc, took the simplest stances, strikes, blocks, manipulation, ground work and throws, and focuses on making the most effective bits (in his judgment) from a variety of arts into a cohesive whole that can be put into practice under pressure in real life. Kind of a balance between less is more and well rounded. Other than that, music (listening, audio etc rather than playing, sadly), motorbikes, and cooking (or rather, eating, but by extension, putting effort into cooking when I have the time and energy.

Tennis. I mostly play at an excellent local club but also fortunate to have a court at home which we have just resurfaced with an all -weather astrograss type surface.

I like to cook (just getting into curries) bake all my own bread. I read every day, I started woodworking using hand tools (Paul sellers being my guru). Hate cats, like dogs but too lazy to own one, plus they are a tie and costly to own, have bodily fluids and the thought of picking up poop makes me want to retch.

Love my hi-fi and music and surround sound for films and just about to invest in a 65″ telly (thought OLED was the way to go and have seen some stunning tv’s but have read recently about burn in issues with OLED so may go for Samsung’s Neo QLED instead) to replace my old 50″ Panasonic Plasma.

Also, love writing very long letters (20 pages or anything between 8,000 to 10,000 words) to my older sister who lives in Spain. Stories about my life, memories, jokes, what myself and my other half are getting up to and my general thoughts on what is going on today. All embellished with added photoshoped (usually with my physog) pictures to make them interesting and hopefully amusing.

burn in shouldnt be bad now a days, i have a lg c1 oled 55″ - wish i went bigger, the new oled have evo panels to stop burn in.

some people can be sensitive to oled judder though, but for me they give the best picture

I feel your pain with the gardening, I always wanted a decent size garden but now I realise it takes quite a lot of work! I enjoy a lot of it but there’s also lots of boring maintenance jobs I would rather not have to do.

It seems many of us have similar hobbies. Before getting severely bitten by the coffee bug (I had preconditions for 30 years including buying a burr grinder for a Krups ‘espresso maker’ and then fixing/tweaking two bean-to-cup machines, but went down seriously slightly over a year ago), I’ve pursued photography, hifi, video/home theater and wood working (building a Paul Sellers workbench and a good number of his superb projects), or automotive maintenance/performance projects with the same level of interest.

I guess many of us are driven by technical hobbies and have the funds to indulge in them. Many of us probably like mechanical gear and interacting with it too… and I suspect most of us are not afraid of the odd DIY repair job/challenge

That’s awesome! Have you played hockey at team level? I’m a big fan of the sport as a spectator, never had the shoulders to be a player! Big Leafs fan though and went to the stadium when I was last in Toronto.

Hobbies outside of coffee for me are motorbikes, guitars and photography. I suppose a borderline audiophile and vinyl fan although a growing Sonos system seems to gradually be moving me towards convenience (and impressive sound/price ratio!). As a graphic designer it’s also a requirement for me to be pretty heavily into art/design too I guess.

i played ice at blackburn under 19 for a while,

i mainly always played inline, played for northwest jr when i was younger, im a goalie so spots are limited, i do play with gb players now still though

Motorcycling (used to teach advanced for the I.A.M.), videogames, Cuban cigars and pipe smoking. Used to be into archery in a big way and shot for Gloucestershire for 10+ years until I got a herniated disc in my back and had to give up. Won a couple of county indoor championships in my prime, though.

I run, a lot. I usually rack up about 50-60 miles a week if I’m training for something, at the moment I’m preparing for an ultramarathon in early September. It’s a small ultra at 34 miles, but I’m hoping to be at the pointy end of the pack. I’m lucky enough to have a wife who also runs so we often combine holidays with marathons. We ran Boston (USA, not midlands) this year after trying to get there for 4 years including qualifying and covid!

I also dabble in some garden stuff when I have time, when we moved in we adopted 100+ goldfish and have since added some carp so I guess that’s a hobby too!

Oh, and food. I like finding/cooking good food as I’m unsurprisingly often hungry!

Archery, astronomy, astrophotography, orienteering, running (currently training for the London Marathon in October when the Achilles tendonitis lets me), wild camping. I used to do a lot of home brewing and running bars at beer festivals until covid got in the way and I started running regularly.

Del_UK it’s my second, I did the Yorkshire Marathon last October. I had a different injury for that- right knee cartilage problem that forced me to walk the last 5 miles. Still did it in just over 5 hours. Not bad for a pensioner with a bus pass who only took up running in 2018 after a lifetime of avoiding all forms of exercise

London is a really well supported course. I did it in 2018 when it was really hot and it was not the most fun I’ve ever had, but I’m sure a cooler day would make it much nicer!
