Draining Service Boiler through the drain valve

@DavecUK Another successful full drain of the service boiler! So convenient now! I have now left the tube attached to the drain valve under the machine.

I am really going to have to get up to speed with all these tweaks owners are doing. I have not touched mine since I got it, other than set the boiler temps to something more acceptable for the medium plus stuff I drink. The thought of going in to the special menu to adjust the pid settings fill me with fear, then I look at @LMSC doing things like adding drain valves…….am off to watch the cricket!

NelisB this is actually SMART MAN !! so basically you wanted the 24v solenoid to mimic the switch of the pump and direct it to the line-pipe !!!

Systemic Recommend IMS B662Th26M. I dose it anywhere between 17.5grm - 18.5grm and it works fine.

now having this, there alot shallower than the stock basket , lot less headroom too with the above dosing

Cuprajake 18g is perfect mostly. Some time, I see a mark around the edges - beans dependent. I think, a bean or two less will do.

I love a bigger cup in the morning. This requires 21g dosage. On a triple IMS, this fills the basket just 50-60%. With the evo’s 11 bar pressure, even releasing the lever slowly, the puck gets fractured or creates craters. The puck screen fixes the problem but the extraction goes to extremes, which we don’t like.

Since it looks like you have one of the V handles on your machine, maybe you can help with the question I had about the V-handle. I would love to fit one, but I’m not sure it would fit my machine as it needs to fit under a cupboard above the machine.

Could you please ask your friend with the V-Handle to measure distance, when handle is in the resting position, from the top of the handle to an easy reference point, maybe the centre line of the big pivot bolt.

In additional, a side on photo of the machine with the handle in resting position would be helpful to see how for forward the maximum height of the handle is relative to the group. Looks like it may be further forward than the stock handle.

It depends, some sevice boilrs were made that didn’t empty fully or relatively fully…but they switched back to the way it was on the Minima.

If you just want to do a service boiler water refresh to keep the TDS down, simply draw a few cups every 1-3 months depending on how much you use it.

If you want to descale it…heat it up fully…switch the machine off and see how much you can drain out. If you can get anything around 1200 litre plus, don’t worry.

Personally I’d not want to keep removing that fitting, perhaps at a drain tap, it’s a BSP thread, but use PTFE and don’t overtighten, because the UK BSP fittings have a slight taper.

What are peoples thoughts on the ims baskets, i got one but its alot thinner in depth than the stock basket, @Systemic i know you light med/light do you do anything different with temp for this basket

The IMS has two baskets. What you have is IMS 26. It’s perfect to dose 18g - light to medium. If medium dark or dark (decaf for an example), I dose 17g-17.5g max.

If you want a deeper one, you need B662TH32M! We hardly use it 😊

Have cartridge heaters set to 93c and brew boiler set to 102c. Tried other permutations but this suits my set up.

I drink only espresso, i don’t use the steam boiler but once a week I turn the water tap and drai water out 1300lt is the max with 125 °C set.

I just looking for organize eventual future descaling… do you think I canuse only the water tap?
