Now that we have a much improved PID setting for the brew boiler (1,0,5,150) with very narrow fluctuations (-0.3/+0.0°C in my case), has anyone found an improved PID setting for the group heaters? the “2.0,.04,5.0,40” recommendation doesn’t work well for me as the machine never reaches the target temperature, and I’ve reverted to the stock setting with a higher Band value (with it the temperature oscillates between -0.9 and +0.8°C which is OK but not ideal)

What are the PID parameters you are using for the group, and is it oscillating when left in the steady state by a tiny amount

I’m currently using P = 2, I = 0, D = 5, B = 30 (same as when the machine shipped, except for B which was 5)

When the machine is idling Group, temperature keeps on oscillating from Target - 0.9C to Target + 0.8C or thereabouts, with a period (from memory) of 30 to 60 seconds. The heater indicator on the LCD display is flashing on and off while the temperature drops below the set point, but it keeps on dropping and then overshoots the set point.

It’s not the end of the world, but as the brew boiler is not very stable, this is the next thing on the path to nirvana !

See how that goes. If it still oscillates around set point try adding some integral, start with 0.05 and increase it by small amounts.

With these values my group stays 2 degress beneath set temp. With Eiffel’s 2,0,5,30 it is still 1 degree low. Just now I set B=9. I’ll let you know in an hour how that works out.

I have spent the last few hours trying diff settings for the group. I have settled on the following which maintains -.3 to +0.0 generally -.2 to 0.0 from set temp of group. It was not this stable when I initially set, only when I returned to machine an hour later did I notice that it had totally stabilized.

I have noticed that my software version is maybe newer than others 2.07

also when I put a B value of 60 it would maintain set temp at -1.7 to -2.0 below set temp. Only with low B value would it reach set temp.

These are the values I last used. I found B value the most tricky, 6,7, 8 seemed to work the best for me. Post 1520 is where it starts in this feed.

and when i pull a shot the group temp stays at 90, or am i missing something?

mines set at 90/96 for the med and then the lighter stuff is 90/98 atm

My findings are similar to Nelis’, in that with Dave’s proposed settings the group never reaches the target temperature.

With a target of 88C, it oscillates between 85.5 and 85.7 (before making any shot)

With a target of 90.5C; it oscillates around 88.2-88.4 (and a bit higher after making shots).

I did notice with other settings that too high a value for B would prevent the group from reaching the target temperature., and I’m thus experimenting with B = 5 instead of the proposed 60
