Hi guys…I looked but I could not find…

Can anyone point me to the latest and greatest PID settings for best temperature stability?

BBritton I have spent the last few hours trying diff settings for the group. I have settled on the following which maintains -.3 to +0.0 generally -.2 to 0.0 from set temp of group. It was not this stable when I initially set, only when I returned to machine an hour later did I notice that it had totally stabilized.

Kd 5.0

B 6

These are the values I last used. I found B value the most tricky, 6,7, 8 seemed to work the best for me. Post 1520 is where it starts in this feed.

Brew boiler:

Kd 5.0
B 1 (i.e. practically always on-off, there is no point in controlling temperature precisely for steam)

As dark as your beans are I’d drop temps,

90/96 or even 89/95

Cuprajake Just tried a shot at 89 / 96 (before reading your post!), and it is better. Sweeter and less harsh aftertaste, but I’ve now gone too fine for that temp… (18 in / 27 out).

My best results with dark roasts is 92/95C with almost no pre-infusion, 9-10 bar shots, 1:2 in 25-30 seconds.

And for medium/light 92/96C with rather fast flow, so somewhere between traditional and turbo. 2-3 seconds pre-infusion, 6-8 bar, 1:2.5-3 in 20-25 seconds. Looking for that fine line between dry (underextracted) and dull (overextracted), where the most details pop out. Light roasts can easily be overextracted on the Leva, so be careful. But also if it tastes dry and sour, just extend the shot, keep going, it can take longer sometimes to get a balanced shot.

Mrs used the leva today, second time only, was to make her and the in laws a coffee. She did it 🥰 hopefully she will gain confidence in using the leva now

Cuprajake I suspect my wife has used the leva more than I have in the last 2 days! That’s what caffeine dependency does to one…

We are both struggling getting decent foam without boiling the milk first, but we’ll get there. Coffee is almost there (and a test pack of North Star Docks is in the post)

Go back to the 2 hole steam tip.

It’s easier to use. I tend to make quite alot of milk when I steam too. Gives me more time

Cuprajake 😁 The 3-hole is sitting in the spare parts bag since day 0… first thing I changed. It’s ‘just’ more practice we need; we tend to end up with very little foam and a lot of very hot milk.

This evening I’ll try with some whole milk, rather than the semi-skim I’ve been ‘forced’ to use…

Rob666 Thanks. He is annoying, I agree, but his tips (!) work.

The only “problem” with the mantis arm on the Leva is that getting to his “40 degrees” starting point is not possible. Angle varies from -7 to +18… but trying to keep the tip over the middle of the jug along the X axis and a quarter of the way from a wall along the Z axis, and varying only the depth has produced the best foam so far. A long way from what I see some of the “artists” here manage, but at least it was drinkable and not overcooked.

There is so much data in this thread! Any thoughts @DavecUK if there is a better way of resourcing it? I wanted to read up a little on the differentials needed between heater cartridge and boiler temps….how and why but my befuddled brain just finds individual posts!

@Eiffel created FAQ manual. This is available as a sticky thread on this forum. I have now merged the official document with this FAQ; am also in the process of editing, incorporating data points from this thread and updating this new document. This is going to take some time. Please bear with me.

In the mean time, the default PID settings recommended by Dave in Mar/Apr 22 are :

Group 2.0, 0.04, 5.0, 40
 Brew 1.0, 0, 5, 140-160
Service 10,0,5,1.0

The differentials that we use is 6C. I use 90.5C/96.5 for medium. I go down to 89.5C/95.5 for medium dark.
