Do people play with their infusion pressure?

I’ve moved it but gone back to 2bar

Cuprajake Not touched it from factory in 6 months - but then I find that I have more than enough parameters to play with between temperatures, grind, dose and ratio.

Sometimes, when grinding coffees that go so fine that I get grinder stall or lumpiness, I wish I could decrease the pre-infusion pressure easily, as that may help. However, even in those cases I have seldom needed to throw away shots (which may well be a sign of a non-discriminating palate…).

I did try 2.5-3.0. Didn’t like the taste. Gone back to 2.0.

We can’t plumb the machine either - location and even if we move it, will not drill the expensive granite kitchen top!

Cuprajake I’d add (at least in my case) flexibility of location. My machine is on a trolley in the opposite corner of the kitchen to the sink. It was the only place where it could have gone without massive disruption, and plumbing in would have been messy in any case (granite top).

what are you guys using for Tamper and basket?
The stock acs accessories are:

-double shot=H32 and holds 18/20g

-tamper is 53mm?

anyone confirm?

IMS 26 is widely used. We load 17 max at our place, while some go up to 18g. The IMS 32 is too big, you want 20g-22g.

We have the 54.4mm convex Torr and 54.9 mm Bravo.

1 single (conical), 2 double (32 mm) baskets. Irritatingly, slightly smaller diameter than the IMS.
Naked, single and double spouted portafilters
Tamper 53.7 mm (with same wood as other accessories, so it looks very nice, but it’s too small)
2 and 3 hole steam tips
Plumbing kit
Spare o-rings, gaskets and bits’n’bobs

Do you mean ACS supply the machine with IMS 26 basket? I thought the stock wasn’t IMS.

Does anyone know current price of the Evo? Will be listing one of my two Evo’s shortly - my son’s. We’re in the process of pooling households so will only need one. Would like it to go to a forum member of at all possible.

Curious…. What do you do on Evo or lever machines in general (exception 1grp vostok) if you mess up the grind and go too fine on a new batch of beans and basically plug the basket and nothing comes out??

I have a ‘standard’ machine and if I mess up, I can stop the shot, the pressure and water gets deflected into Drip tray.

With the Evo, there’s no valve to deflect the pressure and water…. What do u do?

Let it cool down, wrap grouphead in towel and release the portafilter???

You have a pressure gauge on the Evo group…pull on the lever until the pressure reads zero, then unlock the portafilter whilst holding the pressure at zero…no drama, no fuss….Then gently let the lever up.

DavecUK alright, haven’t got machine yet, apparently there’s a big trade show on in Europe.

Will experiment when I get it but…

From my understanding, when you pull lever down, the gauge should never read zero correct because you have the pressure of the boiler plus pump forcing water into grouphead for the shot….hence preinfusion

If I kept lever down/still…. Would I not get continuous pre-infusion pressure say 2 bar?

If I release lever, the spring takes over and puts 10+ bars on the puck

Like the guy above said… if I went way too fine and brick the puck….nothing will get through the puck, I would have to let the whole machine cool down, hence less pressure, wrap the grouphead and portafilter with a towel and release it and hope it doesn’t make a huge mess…..

With the new 1group Vostok, they built a release valve in, bypassing the need for a 2nd cup/container and/or moving the shot away.

boshk - as @DavecUK says: pull on the lever and hold it there until the pressure shows zero, and remove the portafilter. Obviously, after the pre-infusion stage. This will essentially move the piston up, stopping the pressure on the water inside the cylinder. But… even though Dave says no drama and no fuss, you still have a cylinder with 100ml of water (or whatever the capacity is) which needs to come out. So be prepared for a few splashes, thankfully, at atmospheric pressure. 😉

Edit: how do I know? Same with a La Pavoni, just the opposite direction with the lever. 😉

boshk the vent system will come to the ordinary Evo eventually. But to prevent the pump cutting in, simply switch the machine off and then follow the process I gave. I didn’t mention that, perhaps I should have.
