Turn off the steam boiler and keep it off, once the steam boiler is cold, does it still do the pulsing?

DavecUK I left the steam boiler off and it still does the same thing. However, it is much less frequent. There are also no leaks inside or under the machine. It’s almost like the pump is trying to be primed somehow so it’s ready to go.

Next time you make a drink can you video it, so we can see how the p stat dead band is set please.

Cuprajake I think this is what you mean. I read the FAQs again and have an idea regarding what you mean about deadband. Let me know your thoughts.

Finley-72 Sounds like the dead band needs adjusting, it’s the top screw and I believe has to be turned anticlockwise a little…be gentle, you don’t want to break the stat. Make sure you report the issue to your retailer and ACS for advice, and send them a copy of the video.

The thing I don’t understand is how that has gone out of adjustment…did the retailer, or you adjust, that stat? This is because (from your description), this is a new problem, it hasn’t always done it from new?

Similar to this post Finley-72. I have posted once about this before. My machine pulses anywhere from 10-20 times during pre-infusion. It doesn’t do it at rest. So i’m not that concerned other then it is a little annoying and noisy to have that many pulses from the pump during a shot. For reference the amount the pressure gauge moves is almost imperceptible.

I am wondering if I could make a small adjustment to the deadband so that during shots i’m not getting 20 momentary pump activations.

My machine sounds the same as the video : I can upload one of my own if needed. The difference is that even in the video there are only 3-4 pump chirps and then a bigger adjustment and its done. My machine will sit there and chirp the pump on avg 15 times while it sits at 2bar PI.

Thanks yeah so yours is quite tight Vs say mine,

Mines slower to react. Set at 2 bar.

I don’t think this is a problem, but it shows its very quick to react.

DavecUK Thx Dave. After reading Jake’s reply I figured it did. When I had the machine in for service perhaps it was adjusted? Not sure but I will report it. I will carefully and slightly adjust the stat and get back to you. I don’t remember it being a problem before. It perhaps did this occasionally , but if so it was infrequent since I didn’t notice it as an issue.

DavecUK I adjusted the dead band screw counter clockwise towards the +. It’s now horizontal if you look into the machine. It has worked so the machine only pulses occasionally and I think it is likely due to water seeping/creeping in the group while sitting idle at temperature. I’m looking into whether the shop adjusted it for whatever reason. Thx Dave and Jake for your time and help.

The dead band screws feel loose in there but they turn. Take a good before pic so you can go back.

What do you mean by occasionally?

DavecUK I did speak to soon. I did adjust the pressure stat screw. I’ll attach before and after pics. It is pump pulses every minute with both boilers and very 2 minutes with just the brew boiler. This is better than before. Basically whenever either boiler clicks to begin heating or rather maintaining it triggers the pump to pulse. Should I adjust the screw counter clockwise more?

No, there is a different problem. The sealed brew circuit must have a slow leak, contact ACS for advice.

I’ve also no idea why it pulses more often with the steam boiler on, and less with the steam boiler off. Be sure to mention that in your email to ACS. It could be as simple as something like the one-way valve in the water distribution circuit.

How does it react to filling the group when making a shot now?

Seem to still be getting this error (AL11). Ive checked the setting and F=4 is 0.

Does the sensor detect if its in water or not? Or just by the positioning of the ring? (Up = tank has water, down= tank is empty)?

You may have a dodgy wire, I did.

The wire from the sensor goes down behind the boiler, and is cable tied up to the frame, one of the cables had come out of the connector, yours could be the same

It’s only 2 wires, the float just joins them to say there’s water.

Take the back off , then the weight and trace the wire back.

Eiffel Hi, a bit off topic, but I can’t seem to be able to access the evo leva faq that you link below (and I was able to about a month ago). Since I’ve asked ACS for a quote on an evo leva, I just wanted to check the faq. Would you mind checking accessibility? Highly appreciated!

I’m not sure what happened, but this new link (here or in my signature) should work.

The FAQ hasn’t been updated for nearly 18 months (someone else volunteered to do it), but what has come up in the interim seems to be only positive, setting aside the price increase… and my own Evo Leva continues to meet expectations and to work flawlessly. The Vostok 1G and upcoming Evo Leva V2 (assuming it has the same features as the Vostok 1G) may have more convenience features, but the in the cup results shouldn’t be any better 😉
