Bobbyji If a guy could save 5/600 euro by purchasing a ‘New old stock’ unit, would it be a good deal?
I’m torn bc I’d prefer a Quite Pull experience and am hoping that the new Rotary Pump solves this. The Flex issue, Safety Feature, and under-chassis Lights would be very nice bonuses!
It’s a tricky one, the slight flex won’t ever cause a problem, the frame and case is all stainless, not painted mild steel like so many machines. The gear pump does have some noise. Functionally they would be identical. However saving 500/600 euro is only something you can judge. Is it worth the difference in cost (if that is the actual difference between a machine with and without:
- rotary pump
- safety feature
- under chassis lights
- even stronger frame
If that is indeed the saving, and the features you want don’t make it cost more.
Note: The flex issue was made a big thing by a forum which favours Londinium machines and had at least one forum owner on there (linked to Londinium). This forum (which is a LTD company) tried to assassinate the Evo on launch. One of them was a particularly nasty troll and made some ridiculous posts which I am not sure were removed, if they were, it certainly wasn’t done quickly. I was personally amazed because they were all perfectly happy to threaten the jobs (and very existence) of a very small company pretty much making bespoke machines. I believe some of them also made posts on HB as well, as their forum had very limited reach.
Even more Ironic was the fact that L:ondinium machines are owned by 1 person who lives in New Zealand but are built by quite a large espresso machine company in the UK called Fracino. I will leave you to think about how that relationship works and why the machines are overpriced (more than an Evo) for a much more basic machine (both technology and build quality..
