Ptfe tape is about the best.

Ive never had anything remotely similar though so could he wrong 🤪

You need a medium weight tape.

Do not be tempted to over tighten the fitting.

If its tight and just past the 90 degree spot you need start again with more tape. Count how many wraps so you get it right the second time.

Will say this again as it is important. DO NOT be tempted to over tighten it or you will regret it!!

Simple fix. Big mistake if you get it wrong 😎😂

Will answer your next question tomorrow about how to remove it. Its easy btw . BUT Do NOT try to do anything with the back of the valve the pipe goes to .

Adrianmsmith Thanks for that, I pretty much thought it would be thread tape, but pays to do it properly the first time.

Maybe not so obvious but prior to working on it, after making a coffee(!) turn the power off and draw quite a bit of water from the boiler through the water valve.

Having studied it i thought it looked like a lot of work to remove the pipework in to the elbow . And as i said above, my opinion, do not think of removing the pipework from the back of the valve .

My solution . Drain as above . Turn machine on its side and LOOSEN the 3 nuts (dont remove them) just enough to give enough slight movement to get the pipe out of the elbow

I tightened the 3 nuts and replaced the bottom around 3 weeks later 🤪

Adrianmsmith I’m not sure if we are on the same page, the fitting that is slightly leaking is the one on top of the boiler, with the copper pipe coming out of it.

Also use an appropriate sized spanner on the FLATS of the elbow -don’t grip near the thread.

And dont forget to remove the nut on the adjacent elbow as per picture.

P.s. copper isnt as flexible as polyethylene.

Adrianmsmith I have a hissing sound coming exactly form the elbow fitting you have removed in that picture.

Currently managed to unscrew the nut, but stuck on getting the pipe out of the elbow, when I stumbled upon your post.

Do I understand you correctly that I need to loosen the boiler screws on the bottom and unscrew the nut of the other elbow to be able to get the pipe out of the leaking elbow?

Ok, so it was just the olive not sealing and required ⅓ turn on the nut to seal it?

I guess theres 2 sides to evert elbow 😂😂😂 sorry!!!

Adrianmsmith No, it was the threaded piece that went into the top of the boiler, with the copper pipe coming out the other end.

Ah OK, good you got it fixed. out of interest, im intrigued how you removed it, assuming my method was not necessary. Maybe the production units ae a different arrangement for the plumbing?

There was just enough flex to very slowly get the pipe out of the fitting. As you say the plumbing maybe different on mine.

I’m intrigued how that will help you when you have all the information you require with the machine right in front of you.

A steam leak is easier to find with the machine heating and cooling, not simply idling

LMSC I’ve tried all those, plus I have a long bendy inspection camera, it’s not bad at the moment, will have to take most of the covers off, but can’t be bothered at the moment.

With my slight leak the other month it was self healing once hot.

Only visible and leaking as it past 100 to 120 degrees.

Once it gets hot, to investigate, turn power off and open hot water outlet until it drains. Then start again……

Grunta How old is your machine (when was it manufactured), as although Jake is correct…he is only correct for earlier models. The Vostok has used compression fittings on the back of the steam/water arms for a while now, probably 6 months or so. The Evo doesn’t have space to allow the use of them.

P.S. Even before those dates of compression fittings (on Vostok), flexible sealant began to be used around 2 to 2.5 years ago which also makes the problem far less likely to occur. It was caused by the expansion and contraction of the metals and a permanent (non flexible threadlock). The semi permanent is not only much easier to remove, but is flexible which alleviates the problem.

depending on the version it could be off the steam arm and that is a nightmare!!
