With the citric you may need to mix enough for over one tank, pull it through the system so its all the mixture in the brew boiler and pipelines prior to letting it sit.

Once finished purge 2 to 3 tanks of clean water through, although some leftover citric won’t kill you 🤭

Anyway, will descale it as per your instructions. Since its now plumbed in, I guess as long als the waterlevel is above the sensor, it won’t take water from the mains? Not that it would be a big problem, but ofcourse I want a good mixture of acid and water.

Yes, but you need to run water through the group, to fill the pipes and fill the boiler with descaler. Probably do it in a few goes, purging water from the group to get the concentration in the boiler up.

Use 50g Citric acid to 500 ml -1000ml of water.

If your machine has drain taps, it might be new enough to have them…then.

turn off brew boiler
empty brew boiler
fill tank with descaler,
fill brew boiler by flushing until water comes from the group
turn on brew boiler
leave for 3 or 4 hours for solution to work.
turn off brew boiler
drain brew boiler.
fill tank with clean water and repeat the steps, draining once more to remove all traces of citric acid.

Here a picture of the lever. There is no tension if that was what you were looking for. It can “wiggle” in rest.

I used citric as per the instructions. I wasn’t able to make coffee due to time but what is definitely noticeable was the lack of scale in the sleeve after the descale. You can see on the picture it has disappeared. So far so good!

I will see what happens tomorrow when I make coffee.

Cuprajake no not yet. Unfortunately didn’t have the time when I got home and drinking coffee later in the evening doesn’t work well for me.

So far so good! I made 2 shots this morning. First with 1.0 bar PI. Worked fine although the PI timer didn’t start. My guess is because it didn’t reach 1 bar.

Second shot was with 1.7b PI. I had to change beans since my last bag was finished, so the timing is a bit off. Didn’t have time to properly set the grinder.

@DavecUK in this case the pressure on the screen is more or less the same as on the manometer.

I will have to see in the coming days if the problem is solved with a simple descale.

Anyway, thank you all very much for helping me out! Having an active forum like this is really great.

Pretty sure the problem is scale and a descale (or 2) has a good chance of resolving it….If you don’t let the service boiler refill (turn steam off, let machine cool down over night, then switch on, to ensure any autofill of the steam boiler is the last one due to water contraction). This way, you only descale the brew circuit and brew boiler.

Quick question: so I removed the piston assembly.

there is a white spacer (which I couldn’t see on Patrick Savages video) between the spring and the piston itself. Not sure if it is supposed to be like this. I’m not sure if it is broken or that it should be this way. Anyway, should I worry.

As you can see I have some cleaning to do.

Machine still works great by the way!

It does have a split in it from new, although it looks a bit distorted. it’s only function it to stop any rubbing metal parts on the bore….which if you examine the bore, you can see if it’s still doing. I do think it’s worth ordering a couple of spares though.

P.S. Check with ACS because that looks thinner than they usually are, but of you have the safety system piston, that might explain it.

Maybe it looks off and just needs the piston taking off and pressure releasing and then move the Teflon round a tad so the split is more under the part of the spring that is flat. Guess it would then fit in a more aesthetically pleasing if not “better” position .

Mine certainly sits flat….. Not saying that is mechanically better or an advantage but i think only due to the positioning of the split, which is right at the end of the flat part of the spring.

DavecUK ok, thanks for clearing that up. It does seem to work as intended since the bore of the grouphead looks fine.

I’ll contact Paolo to ask him if he sees any abnormalities. I do not have the safety system by the way.

Adrianmsmith Thanks for getting back to me. I agree that it probably isn’t a problem. If I ever get the correct tool I’ll probably fix it, but it doesn’t really bother me at the moment.
Any need to get a tool to disassemble the piston? Maybe for some real deep cleaning?

Adrianmsmith I’m not making any more of the removal tools. I found that the piston wasn’t particularly screwed in very tight but care needs to be taken as the material is soft and easily bruised.

As you say, they are not too tight and with a damp dishcloth I’m sure you can manage perfectly by hand
